*Médecins du Monde* (MdM) is a french international medical Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and is currently implementing a health program in Puncak Jaya district, Papua. MdM supports health staff and communities in improving the district health situation by building their technical capacity on preventive action through training and education. MdM provides medical and humanitarian aid to support vulnerable population worldwide to reach an improved health status and its right to health. MdM works on basis of impartiality and neutrality.

As part of its expanding team, MdM is currently looking for an experienced

*Communication officer*


*Duration*: 10 months; starting on May 2011, until February 2012
*Reporting to:* Program Coordinator
*Base: *Jayapura; with frequent visits in Puncak Jaya (4 visits a year).
* Salary, working conditions and position will be subject to *MdM staff internal Regulations for Indonesian missions*.
*The main activities will consist of the following: *

- Communication activities:

o articles and report writing,
o contextual updates
o Follow up of communication strategy and IEC materials

- representation of MdM and public relations towards partners and relevant authorities

- advocacy activities:
o follow-up of the advocacy strategy towards partners and authorities,
o field visits,
o organization of meetings
- Support proposal and concept note writing
*Profile of the candidate:
* Background: - Bachelor degree or highschool degree with proven experience
- Background in communication, education and/or social sciences **

Experience:

- Proven experience in the field of communication and/or advocacy
- Work experience within an NGO or similar organisation
- Knowledge of health care activities particularly sexual and reproductive health
- Previous work or life in Papua experience is a strong asset

Skills and qualities required:
- Very good level of English and Bahasa Indonesia both spoken and written
- Writing and creative skills
- Ability to learn from different cultures and people, specifically the Dani people in the highlands of Papua.
- Proficiency with Microsoft, CorelDraw/Photoshop
- Desire to participate in advocacy and lobby activities in order to support the Papuan Highlands communities
- Ability to work in a challenging geographical context, under basic conditions while working and living with a multi-ethnic team.
- Indonesian national only.
