Chemonics International Inc. seeks a GIS Specialist for the USAID
funded Indonesia
Marine and Climate Support (IMACS) project.* *This project aims to support
the Government of Indonesia in improving the sustained management of marine
ecosystems by providing technical support for key marine activities with
the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF), local communities, and
the private sector.
*Objective*
The primary objective of this assignment is to develop spatial data in
support of a management plan for WPP 573 (Indian Ocean, from Java to
Kupang). These data may include: Bathymetry, sea surface temperature,
chlorophyl content, geography of marine and coastal habitats (mangroves,
coral reefs, river estuaries, seagrass fields, etc.), distribution of fish
stocks (from surveys conducted by RCFMC and other assessments),
distribution of fishing grounds (from interviews and Vessel Monitoring
System data), and location of fisheries infrastructure (fishing harbours
and landing sites, ice factories, processing plants, roads, airports). The
focus of this assignment is on demersal fisheries of WPP 573 (i.e., waters
shallower than 200 m), but if data can be obtained from other WPPs without
too much additional effort, then these data should be included as well.
A second objective is to assist GIS specialists in MMAF agencies with
development of a spatial planning framework. This may involve small
workshops and on-the-job training.
*Qualifications:*
Since IMACS does not have a license for commercial GIS software, the MGS
will use open-source GIS software: QGIS and/or GRASS. This means that
the GIS Specialist should have working experience with either QGIS or GRASS.
Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesian required
*Time Frame*
Interested applicants are requested to send a cover letter and resume
(references will not be contacted prior the interview) to
IMACSproject@gmail.com as soon as possible but no later than January 21,
2013. Please indicate “GIS Specialist” in the subject line or your
application and CV will be ignored. Only strongest candidates will be
contacted and no telephone inquiries, please.
