International (Action Against Hunger) is an international humanitarian
organization that delivers programmes in over 40 countries. Recognized
worldwide as a leader in the fight against hunger, our mission is to save lives
through the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition, especially
during and after emergency situations and conflicts.

ACF has been active in the NTT district since
2007. Around 40 networks have benefited from a renovation, as have water
sources and wells. In the Kupang District, ACF has only been active since 2011.
The district's needs are still considerable, particularly as the number of
stakeholders is lower than the neighbouring TTS district.  Moreover, ACF is due to launch a Nutrition
program in Kupang and WASH initiatives will be implemented in the same
sub-districts in order to strengthen the nutritional program's impact.

As the program is now
starting the implementation, we are currently looking for a short term
consultancy service for Social/Culture Anthropology Survey (independent or
group) and to work in Kupang/NTT Province areas.

Key Objectives :
üTo acquire a better understanding of WASH (Water Sanitation and
Hygiene) practices, beliefs and habits, on 8 sub districts placed in NTT
Province (Kupang and TTS districts), in order to implement ACF activities in
the area.
üTo obtain a close and realistic picture of the present
socio/cultural situation regarding WASH to have a proper ground base for ACF to
intervene in the mentioned area.

Methodology:
üUse participatory approach.
üStay in the villages for the duration of the field work.
üConduct semi structured interviews with key informants and to use
the "participant -observer"
ümethodology.




Qualifications
and Requirements:
üSocial studies / social anthropology, PhD or other similar diploma
üUnderstand of local context and desirable to have specific
experience in NTT (Kupang and TTS districts)
üProven experience in conducting applied research and field studies
üField experience in data collection and consolidation
üSpecific experience in Public Health/WASH surveys
üExperience in rural contexts

Survey should
include the following as key questions:
üHousing System (who lives in the house?); are the house aligned
and oriented in the landscape
üKinship and family (who live with whom, where, composition of a
typical HH)
üStructure of power in the community (traditional power, state
government, local authority) and in the HH / family. Who is in charge of
children education, budget of the Household
üPerception of hygiene behavior and hygiene education: how and
where children are taught to wash hands, defecating habits
üCare for hygiene: how people see diseases, do they know about
pathogens, germs
üOther causes for diseases such as magic, loss of part of the soul
etc.
