Vacancy announcement: BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES SPECIALIST (Jakarta based)

Tetra Tech ARD is currently accepting expressions of interest for the BEST
MANAGEMENT PRACTICES SPECIALIST (Jakarta based) on our USAID Indonesia
Forestry and Climate Support Project (USAID IFACS).


USAID IFACS seeks to reduce the threats of deforestation and climate change,
and help the Government of Indonesia (GOI) conserve the country's tropical
forests, wildlife, and ecosystem processes (including carbon sequestration).

JOB SUMMARY:

He/she will work with other members of BMP Unit to inform selected natural
resource concessionaires on appropriate BMPs for their concessions, train
their staff in these practices, and assist them develop and implement
conservation management plans. The BMP unit will develop agreements for
collaboration with USAID IFACS, take existing technical guidelines regarding
BMPs, and modify if necessary (for use in training), assist staff in target
concessions to increase their familiarity with BMPs, facilitate
concessionaires to develop conservation management plans that incorporate
BMPs using a phased approach, incorporate these BMPs into standard operating
procedures (SOPs), assist them to develop adaptive monitoring and evaluation
(M&E) procedures, facilitate implementation of their conservation management
plans.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

1. Revise the BMP documents to include additional information on
conservation of environmental services, management for Climate Change, and
management at landscape scales.

2. Use these revised BMPs to train key actors in BMPs, concessionaires
and their concession staff, local government staff, NGOs, and selected local
communities in the target landscapes.

3. Be the lead facilitator, with support from both the Concession
Coordinator and Environmental Planner, in the development of conservation
management action plans that incorporate BMPs in 15 concessions.

4. Collaborate with concessionaires to incorporate key elements of
these plans into concession Standard Operating Procedures and assist
implementation.

5. Work with regionally based staff, especially the GIS/Spatial
Planner and Forest & Conservation Advisor, to train landscape
multi-stakeholder coordinating groups in BMPs, and management planning to
improve their capacity to implement conservation BMPs throughout the target
landscapes.

6. Work collaboratively with the BMP Unit and the Forestry, Climate
Change, and Biodiversity Conservation Advisor to achieve all goals and
deliverables listed in the work plan and task order contract.

QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):

University degree in related discipline

Five years' experience working in the general area of natural resource
management

Experience working with USAID funded projects is preferred

Good knowledge of conservation issues related to forests, biodiversity,
environmental services and Climate Change.

Experience in facilitating development of objective based conservation
management plans.

Experience working with natural resource concessionaires and their staff.

Strong written and verbal communications skills and proven management
skills.

Native fluency in spoken and written Indonesian;

Professional competency in spoken and written English.

Ability to engage in activities occurring in multiple field sites with
multiple stakeholders across Indonesia;

Willingness to travel extensively in Indonesia.
