Project:                        Berbak Green Prosperity Partnership
Duty station:               Menteng, Jakarta
Donor:                          MCA-Indonesia
Firm (employer):        Euroconsult Mott MacDonald

Introduction and Background
The national Peatland Restoration Agency (Badan Restorasi Gambut or BRG) was formed early 2016 by the President in response to the massive forest and peat fires of 2015 which affected approximately 850,000 ha of peatland. Sub-component 1.6 of the Berbak Green Prosperity Partnership (BGPP) aims at institutional strengthening of BRG.

MCA Indonesia and BRG on 6 March 2017 entered into an Implementing Entity Agreement (IEA) that aims to support BRG with activities that are designed to mitigate risks associated with the implementation of the peatland restoration components in the Green Prosperity project currently in implementation, and complete the foundational mapping and engineering work for additional peatland rewetting both during and after the GP project is completed.

In line with the Implementing Entity Agreement between MCA-I and BRG, aside from the BGPP two other projects have been tendered separately by MCA-I. These two projects are focussed on the following:
·         Provision of spatial information to establish the biophysical, social, legal, and administrative condition of peatlands in targeted peatland areas in (i) Muaro Jambi - Jambi, (ii) Tanjung Jabung Barat Timur - Jambi; and (iii) Kubu Raya - West Kalimantan, including a) Work planning for peatland mapping, b) Peatland data acquisition, c) Mapping data processing and d) Preparation of water flow maps.
·         Provision of Technical Support for Detailed Engineering Designs (DED) and Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) for canal blocking structures in (i) “Block C” of Pulang Pisau District – Central Kalimantan; (ii) Ogan Komering Ilir - South Sumatera; and (iii) Kubu Raya - West Kalimantan in accordance with international and Indonesian specifications and standards.

These projects are implemented by third parties and supervised directly by MCA/BRG. The BGPP however will provide assistance to facilitate the supervision of these two projects.

Sub-component 1.6 of the BGPP has a job opening for a local Junior Expert to facilitate supervision of above projects.

The Berbak GPP is funded by Millennium Change Account Indonesia (MCA-I).
