Consultancy period: November 2018 – March 2019, total 75 days
Consultancy Summary:
The Data Collector for study on Papua Research*
will work with the Local Researcher to collect data of this particular research
in a systematic, standard, and timely manner. He/she will refer the data
collection method is in accordance to the protocol. Hence, he/she will
coordinate with Local Researchers and Study Coordinator on the local
arrangement for logistics and other administrative matters. He/she is to report
their daily activities and data obtained to the Local Researcher, and consult
any backstopping to both Local Researcher and Study Coordinator.
This study explores cultural beliefs around HIV
treatment initiation, retention in care, and viral suppression to identify
barriers and facilitators to uptake of care and improve health care experiences
for PLHIV. Participatory and
qualitative, ethnographic research using an inductive approach will be conducted
to develop an understanding of the issues related to accessing HIV care from
the people living in highland Papua. Researchers will interact with and observe
these groups in their real-life environment. Four study populations are
included: 1) people living with HIV, 2) general community members (cadres) and 3)
community & religious leaders and 3) health care providers including both
traditional healer and facility-based biomedical health care workers. Individuals from 2 - 4 tribes in targeted highland areas
will be included.. Study sites include a community located near a Puskesmas
(Jayawijaya) and two communities located further from biomedical health care
services (Lanny Jaya, Yalimo or Tolikara). Qualitative methods, including interviews, focus group
discussions, participant observations and other participatory methods will be
utilized.
Responsibilities:
- Collect the data as per protocol
- Coordinate with Team Lead and Co-PIs
- Work with Co-PIs and other relevant staff throughout the research process including: protocol and data collection tool development, data collection, data storage and transfer, data cleaning, and data collection report writing.
- Work closely with assigned team members to ensure activities are implemented per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Consult problem solving and resolution efforts to include management of risk, contingencies and issue resolution.
- Possesses knowledge of and remains compliant with local, international and United States Government requirements and other related regulations regarding confidentiality and ethical issues of research subject data.
- Meet the study timelines, costs, and quality metrics.
- Serves as the liaison with internal and external partners to ensure effective collaboration efforts.
· Participate
in team coordination meeting (face to face or via phone calls) as per necessity.
Deliverables:
· Prepare,
and submit data collection notes, records and recording
· Attend
and co-facilitate data collection process
· Coordinate
data collection, management and transfer
· Participate
in data analysis, report and manuscript writing as requested
Education:
- A Bachelor degree and/or Equivalent in Public Health, Anthropology or another social science and at least 2 years of research experience in the field.
- Local language preferred
Experience:
- Experience conducting qualitative or ethnographic research studies.
- Experience conducting in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and/or other ethnographic and participatory research methods.
- Must be responsive, detail-oriented and possess excellent communication skills as this position requires constant interaction with different team members, stakeholders and reporting to organizational partners.
- Familiarity with research ethics including: conducting informed consent, ensuring study participants rights and privacy are maintained and obtaining IRB approvals for research studies.
- Familiarity with HIV and sexual and reproductive health issues, including working with people living with HIV preferred..
- Fluency in speaking and writing in Bahasa
- Has experience working on research projects where tight datelines had to be met.
- Experience with qualitative data recording or transcription.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, analytical software, skype and other technology required.
- Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive fashion.
Travel
Requirements:
- This position will be based in Wamena and will travel to highland districts in Papua.
