Nutrition
International (formerly the Micronutrient Initiative) is a global organization
dedicated to delivering proven nutrition interventions to those who need them
most. Working in partnership with countries, donors and implementers, our
experts conduct cutting-edge nutrition research, support critical policy
formulation, and integrate nutrition into broader development programs. In more
than 60 countries, primarily in Asia and Africa, Nutrition International
nourishes people to nourish life.
Investing in nutrition
in Indonesia is essential for the country’s development. Improved nutrition
will significantly reduce child mortality, improve children’s school
performance, and result in greater economic productivity for the nation. Indonesia
is still facing malnutrition issues i.e. underweight, stunting, wasting and
obesity. Stunted growth refers to low height for age, when a child is short for
his/her age. It is an indicator of chronic malnutrition and carries long-term
developmental risks. Children suffering from stunting may never grow to their
full height and their brains may never develop to their full cognitive
potential. Stunting not only curbs the potential of individuals but also of the
nation’s human capital. Childhood stunting imposes life-long penalties on
adults, who are likely to have a lower income if they have experienced
nutritional deficiency as a child. The income of today’s workforce reflects
stunting rates going back 50 years. In order to reduce the number of stunted
children, focused investment is needed to improve nutrition during the critical
1,000 day window of opportunity from woman’s pregnancy through a child’s 2nd
birthday.
Deficiencies of
essential micronutrients (vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, iron,
folate, zinc and iodine) have significant adverse effects on child survival,
growth and development, as well as on women’s health and well-being.. Stunting
echoes undernutrition during the most critical periods of growth and
development in early life.
The new 2017-2021
National Strategy to Accelerate Stunting Prevention (StraNas Stunting) aims to
reduce high stunting rates across Indonesia. In doing so, both nutrition
specific and sensitive interventions need to be taken. Adequate, healthy and
diverse diet (including breastfeeding), micronutrient supplementation and
appropriate young child feeding practices are nutrition-specific actions aiming
to improve the quality of nutrition for mothers and children.
Unfortunately, however
there is no integrated and comprehensive national nutrition guidelines. The
current guidelines are limited to each program intervention e.g. VAS
supplementation, IFA supplementation, Zinc supplementation and IDD program. Furthermore
some of the provisions in the those individual guideline, protocols and BCI
materials have become outdated and are not consistent with each other and are
not reflective of recent changes and strategic directions within the Indonesia
nutrition and health sector context. Therefore there is need to have the
current guidelines revised, updated and, most importantly, integrated.
To this effect, NI
Indonesia is supporting the Nutrition Directorate of Ministry of Health
authorities in the revision, updating and integrating of the current guidelines
into an integrated nutrition guideline, that would enable nutrition service
provision at all levels of the health/nutrition system in the country (Puskemas,
Districts and Provinces health offices) to respond effectively and efficiently
to management of malnutrition in Indonesia. Therefore Nutrition International
seeks services of an Event Management Agency to support NI and Ministry of
Health for organizing serial meetings and workshops required in revision and
update of the integrated technical guidance on nutrition deficiency elimination.
NI invites
firms/institutions to submit proposal with link as below:
Deadline for
submission: 25 April 2019, 17:00 West Indonesia Standard Time.
Please submit the
documents to proposalsindonesia@ nutritionintl.org using subject line:
““RFQ No: 1617-XX Revision and Update of the
Integrated Technical Guidance on Nutrition Deficiency Elimination”” in the subject line.
Thank you for your
kind attention and cooperation.
