Nutrition
International (formerly the Micronutrient Initiative) is a global
organization dedicated to delivering proven nutrition interventions to
those who need them most. Working in partnership
with countries, donors and implementers, our experts conduct
cutting-edge nutrition research, support critical policy formulation,
and integrate nutrition into broader development programs. In more than
60 countries, primarily in Asia and Africa, Nutrition
International nourishes people to nourish life.
Nutrition International (formerly known as Micronutrient
Initiative) has been appointed as coordinator of SUN CSA (Civil Society
Alliance) Indonesia in December 2018. Receiving support from UNOPs,
Nutrition International
coordinates and implemented series of activities to strengthen its
governance and working system, proliferate its memberships at national
and sub national levels, improve capacity of analysis and advocacy of
SUN CSA Members to contribute for multi-stakeholders
and multi sectoral Nutrition Plans, meanwhile also better mobilise
domestic resources to finance those nutrition plans. These outcomes
inline with goal and objective of SUN CSA Indonesia to promote
sustainable improvement in nutritional status of the people
of Indonesia by creating a strong, coordinated and vibrant civil
society constituency which will support further development and wider
implementation of the nutrition agenda. At the global level, they are
also inline with the Second SUN Movement Strategy and
Roadmap 2016-2020 that laid down strategic direction in contributing to
the achievement of the SDGs.
Since
2013, the SUN Civil Social Alliance (CSA) and academia and professional
organizations have been part of SUN networks. However, CSA and academia
and professional
organizations have not been formally structured, compared to Business
and DUNCNN. In addition, based on the 2018 SUN Joint Assessment, the
need to formally structure CSA and SUNAR has been identified and
strongly suggested by all SUN network members.
The SUN
CSA needs support to further strengthen its capacity in advocacy and
budget analysis and nutrition sensitive planning. There is also need to
mainstream the SUN
CSA network at the sub-national level and facilitate increased
participation from non-health sectors like water, sanitation and health
(WASH), and gender. The coordination mechanism with other SUN networks
also needs to be established and strengthened.
