The USAID Jalin Project (hereafter referred to as “Jalin” or the
“Project”) is a five-year initiative implemented by DAI Global, LLC and its
consortium of partners – IntraHealth, Vital Strategies, and Market Share
Associates. The overall goal of Jalin is to contribute to national goals to
accelerate maternal and newborn mortality reduction. Indonesia has these
national goals, and they have been recently reconfirmed at Presidential
level, because the maternal and neonatal mortality rates are among the
highest in the region, they are far above the Sustainable Development Goals
targets; and they have stagnated in recent years. The overarching problem that
Jalin is striving to solve is: the quality of care accessible to mothers and
newborns is uneven across the country as seen in both public and private
facilities at both primary and secondary levels of care.
USAID Jalin aims to contribute to national goals to reduce maternal
and newborn mortality through improvements in MNH quality of care in public and
private, primary and secondary facilities at scale; and through improvements in
the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency referral systems at
community and facility level at scale. To achieve these high level results,
Jalin will be working to support: a) sustained improvements in practice by
clinical hospital teams in treating obstetric and newborn complications; b)
stakeholder strategies that are more focused on the main causes of maternal and
neonatal death; c) sustained improvements in quality of care by private
midwives; d) integrated ICT referral platforms that are scaled; and e) improved
referral networks that are scaled.
