As we are constantly expanding, we are currently hiring to fill the following position for our office in Sorong:

 

Papua Program Director 

(Code: PP_D)

 

 

Konservasi Indonesia (KI) has been developing conservation program for over two decades to improve protection and management of natural resources in Papua. Bird Head Seascape (BHS) program is one of the most successful seascape conservation programs which provide positive impact to people and nature in Raja Ampat and surrounding regencies. KI is working to strengthen and replicate the BHS success to other landscapes and seascapes in Papua therefore defining strategic planning, approach and priorities are crucial for the program’s success. This position, Papua Program Director will lead the implementation of KI program in Papua and work in partnership with government and other stakeholders designing programs at scale which will contribute to conservation goals in Papua.

 

The Papua Program Director will be responsible for designing program strategy and overseeing and leading program implementation while ensuring the program quality of delivery and sustainability, including fundraising. The director will work together with Papua Conservation Strategy Director to leverage program impacts at landscape and national levels and identify strategic partners to achieve the goals. S/he identifies capacity gaps and implements measures to build capacity both internally and with external partners. Papua Program Director manages regional work closely with KI staffs and CI team in Singapore, Europe, and US.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

       Develop program strategies, objectives, work plans and metrics. Lead the design of new project and ensure its alignment with the program strategies.

       Monitor, measure, interpret, and share results and impact of program in collaboration with the M&E team.

       Work across centres/units to ensure that program activities are aligned with KI’s conservation and division priorities and CI Southern Cross targets.

       Develop program progress and distribute financial reports (budget vs actual); identify and implement refinements in work plans and strategies.

       Ensure program compliance with KI policies, funding agreements and local requirements.

       Identify capacity building needs within the team and KI. Implement and monitor efforts to address capacity gaps. 

       Lead information sharing and cross collaboration within KI and partners. Build stakeholder understanding and support through proactive communication efforts including fact sheets, statistics, and related communication materials.  

       Hold conferences and other learning events to share best practices and lessons learned. 

       Effectively engage stakeholders including donors, government and NGOs, technical colleagues, and other partners important to program success.  

       Represent the organization externally. Serve as a trusted and visible point of contact for KI. Identify opportunities for program growth and development.

       Play a lead role in ensuring program financial sustainability by identifying funding opportunities including seeking opportunities for program expansion to other sites within Sahul Papua region. Regularly partner with CI-APFD, Europe and US offices on funding proposals and regional/global fundraising efforts and strategy discussions.

       Perform related duties as assigned.


 

PEOPLE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

       Supervise staff. As people manager, responsible for; recruit and responsible for staff on-boarding process under his/her responsibilities; ensure that his/her team has proper annual goals setting that is aligned with organizations goals and priorities; provide mentoring, coaching and directions to his/her team.

       Host regular monthly meeting (at least) with all employees to provide feedback and sharing information.

       Manages the program’s budget and finances.  

       Manage public or private funds; ensure compliance with donor requirements and KI policies.


QUALIFICATIONS

      Bachelor’s degree or up to four years of college-level work. Advanced degree of graduate studies strongly preferred.

      Over 15 years of program or project management experience, preferably in the global conservation organizations, NGO, UN, or related for-profit arena.

      Strong technical, writing skills and attention to detail.  

      Experiences working and living in West Papua, Southwest Papua, or Papua.

      Exceptional cultural awareness, interpersonal, listening and language skills.

      Strong English written and verbal communication skills. 

      Ability to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment.

      Comfortable managing multiple duties and adapting to changing priorities.

      Service focused, courteous and tactful, with a proven ability to work effectively with others.

      Proven ability to work in a team environment and work well across cultures and within and across organizations.

      Ability to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under supervisor direction.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

       Extended work hours may be required.

       This position will be based at KI’s office in Sorong.

       Ability to travel up to 50% time to Indonesia field sites, including Jakarta and remote locations in West Papua and Southwest Papua, depending on the skills and preferences of the appointee.
