Key Purpose of the Job
Kemitraan Pengelolaan Lanskap Sembilang-Dangku
(KELOLA Sendang) is an initiative that supports the commitment of South
Sumatra Province to encourage Green Growth Development and reduce greenhouse
gas emissions. Projects are managed based on public sector, private and
community partnerships using the landscape approach as a guide in program
intervention. Partnerships with the private sector are carried out by
providing technical advice related with best management practices (BMP) and
monitoring protected areas; High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon
Stock (HCS).
Part of environmental issue is wildlife
management in plantation concessions. Aside of wildlife protection problem,
wildlife also has the potential become pests causing disturbance on
companies’ operation. Specific species tend to increase in population due to
lack of predators and the abundant availability of food or the overlap
concession area with the wildlife habitat lead to production loss. Efforts
for wildlife control by companies tend to be irresponsible hunting system and
using pesticides or expelling the animal. An integrated pest management
approach needs to be introduced so that knowledge in the control of wildlife
populations can be carried out in an environmentally friendly manner and
through legal steps.
The problems arise and concern local governments.
Action is needed to look at the status of wildlife populations and observe
ecosystem balance. As part of mitigation effort, the companies need to be
trained and study conduct for knowing status of wildlife and ecosystem
