Senior communications and Policy Officer for Oxford University Clinical Research Unit Indonesia (Deadline date: 22 September 2023)

As of September 2022, the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Indonesia (OUCRU Indonesia) operates in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia after having been known as the Eijkman Oxford Clinical Research Unit (EOCRU) since 2008. OUCRU Indonesia is part of the Africa Asia Programme Vietnam, sponsored by the Wellcome Trust, and governed by the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, United Kingdom. OUCRU in Indonesia and Vietnam, along with their many local and international partners, conduct biomedical, clinical, and epidemiological research on infections impacting the health of people living in Southeast Asia and beyond.



In conducting their work in Indonesia, OUCRU ID is assisted by Alliance for Emerging and Re-emerging Disease Threats in Asia Foundation (ALERTAsia), a local foundation assisting in research grant management and capacity building for local researchers.

Through ALERTAsia, we are seeking a communications professional with some experience working in the nonprofit sector to run the position of “Senior Communications and Policy Officer".  OUCRU’s central communications department is based in Ho Chi Minh City, but supports internal and external communications across the entire OUCRU programme.  S/he will be working to support external communications for the OUCRU Indonesia Unit, as well as internal communications projects specific to the Indonesia Unit. S/he will provide support to the OUCRU Indonesia policy engagement programme, acting as a focal point for policy engagement activity within the Unit, and collaborating with the central policy engagement team based in Vietnam.  In addition to this, s/he will support OUCRU Indonesia’s research outputs management, by contributing to our quarterly metrics data gathering and reporting framework.


Job Requirements:

OUCRU Indonesia Central Communications
1. Work in a Programme-wide team to implement communications activities in OUCRU Indonesia under the immediate guidance/mentorship of the Communications Manager.
2. Maintain content, edit, and create new content for the OUCRU website, in collaboration with content owners in OUCRU Indonesia research and operational groups.
3. Develop content for OUCRU Indonesia social media platforms.
4. Coordinate translation of content from English to Bahasa and vice versa.
5. Maintain and contribute to OUCRU’s digital asset management system, with respect to assets from OUCRU Indonesia.
6. Contribute to press engagement in Indonesia, including assisting with press releases and contributing to the central OUCRU press database.
7. Support basic graphic design support, including posters, presentations and branded promotional materials.
8. Contribute to internal communications channels, such as SharePoint Online, with support of the Internal Communications Officer (based in OUCRU Vietnam).

OUCRU Indonesia Policy Engagement
9. Provide support to the Director of OUCRU Indonesia, in engagement with key stakeholders; including coordinating meetings and events.

OUCRU Indonesia Research Outputs Management (Metrics)
10. Collect metrics about OUCRU Indonesia’s policy engagement activities and outputs, and contribute to the OUCRU Programme central policy and press engagement databases.
11. Contribute to the central comms team metrics gathering, and assist with quarterly and annual reporting on all OUCRU Indonesia social media platforms, website and other initiatives.
12. Work with OUCRU Indonesia operational and research teams to gather and interpret data for the central OUCRU metrics system.  This will involve maintaining open lines of communication with internal teams, as well as collaboration with the OUCRU Vietnam metrics management team.


Job Qualifications

Essential criteria:
• Experience working as a professional communications officer.
• Excellent spoken and written Bahasa and English.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in cross-cultural settings.
• Experience developing content for social media and websites.
• Understanding of principles of branding.
• Highly organized.
• Ability to interpret data and contribute to reports.
• Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, and yet be a team player.
• Ability to travel within Indonesia's regions and International.
• Willingness to perform other tasks requested by OUCRU Indonesia Director or Communications Manager.

Preferred criteria:
• Experience working in communications in not-for-profit and/or health related sectors.
• Experience using Hootsuite and Wordpress.
• Graphic design skills, intermediate expertise on Adobe Creative products.
• Experience in data analysis, reporting, or administration.
• Science communication experience.
• Photography skills.
• Training skills.


Benefits
The selected candidate will receive a one-year contract with possible extension, and remuneration package that includes annual leave, sick leave, THR, compensation money, optional private medical cover, BPJS Kesehatan, and not to mention fully paid income tax and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (JAMSOSTEK). The salary shall be competitive and dependent upon qualifications and salary history.
