Project Description
Mercy Corps Indonesia works to address the root causes of poverty to improve the quality of life for disaster and conflict affected, urban, and coastal communities. Current programs in Maluku promote sustainable economic development through integrated, entrepreneurial self-help programs and skills training, with a particular focus on health, nutrition, and environmental development for underprivileged communities.
Position: Consultant for Land Tenure Study
Mercy Corps is seeking calls for proposals from qualified individuals or institutions to conduct an independent study of land tenure in Maluku. The study will provide a basis for discussion and clarification among all stakeholders, promoting more transparency around these issues and opening the possibility for concrete solutions.
The consultant will be working to design and conduct a research paper on key issue related to land tenure in 15 villages in Maluku. Areas covered will include but are not limited to:
· Overview of traditional and existing land tenure systems in Maluku.
· Role of land issue and land tenure in the lead up to the conflict in Maluku.
· Current laws and regulations relating to land tenure and channels for addressing land tenure issues.
· Impact of ongoing land tenure and boundary demarcation issues in Maluku.
· Review and analysis of existing certification process.
· Key recommendations.
Area of coverage:
This activity will take place in 15 villages in Maluku Tengah, Kota Ambon and Seram Bagian Timur.
The selected candidate will have substantial knowledge a proven track record in carrying out high quality research on issues related to conflict, governance and rights and/or legal systems in Indonesia.
