Regional Communication Manager

Greenpeace, one of the world’s most respected and dynamic organization, is an international non-profit global campaigning organization that acts to protect and conserve the environment. At the heart of Greenpeace campaigns is the tradition of non-violent, direct action against environmental abuse and destruction.

For 40 years, Greenpeace has been successful in campaigning to reverse environmental degradation by bearing witness to environmental degradation by bearing witness to environmental destruction and exposing and confronting environmental abuse. Greenpeace campaigns have been vital in informing government policies on the environment and effecting changes in business practices which lead to various environmental problems.

Greenpeace does not accept funding from governments or corporations to ensure our independence from financial and commercial interests. We rely on the support of individuals to be able to continue our work in protecting the environment.

The Regional Oceans Campaigner serves as the Team Leader for Greenpeace Southeast Asia’s Ocean Team, overseeing and spearheading the planning and implementation of Oceans campaign in Southeast Asia primarily in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Regional Communication Manager

Responsibilities:
The Regional Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a well-thought out communications strategy and plan for Greenpeace Southeast Asia (GPSEA) which is supportive of both the organizational and campaign objectives of the organization. The Manager is responsible for rolling-out GPSEA’s communications strategy across all departments to ensure coherent and consistent public messaging and profiling which reflects Greenpeace’s identity. The Manager is also responsible for ensuring high quality media outreach for GPSEA’s campaigns and organizational profiling activities. In implementing these responsibilities, the Communications Manager has to involve all staff and key persons from each Department, to ensure buy-in for the strategy and plan.
Main Responsibilities :
To develop GPSEA’s communications strategy, based on the framework already developed by Greenpeace International, to make it more suitable to audiences in each of the GPSEA offices in the region.
To develop a communications plan based on the communications strategy that will be rolled out across all departments in support of GPSEA’s campaign objectives.
To develop communication guidelines and procedures for all GPSEA materials and publications and ensure that guidelines are observed and implemented in all GPSEA publication and materials.
Working closely with the Communications Director, Coordinate Greenpeace’s media/communications activities including leading media campaigners in the region and maximizing the utilization of media space for GPSEA’s campaign objectives via press releases, report launches, media conferences, direct actions, boat tours and reactions to external events, features, lifestyle, advertisements and viral media channels.
Oversee the writing, preparation and editing of GPSEA’s English language press releases, external campaign materials, reports and other publications.
Oversee the provision of media related input for campaigns and provide direction on media coverage for campaign in the region.
Oversee the maintenance and development of GPSEA’s media resource center, including the provision of audit and database of visual, print, and other communications materials.
Develop and maintain strong relationship with the media across the region via informal briefing, information provision, etc, in order to encourage them to view Greenpeace as a credible source of environmental news commentary; Represent GPSEA in international communications/media planning and strategy meeting as needed and when directed.
To periodically evaluate and measure the effectiveness of GPSEA’s communication strategy in terms of increasing brand awareness, public perception, support for GPSEA’s campaigns, and achievement of campaign objectives.


Requirements:
Qualifications and Skills Required :
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or other related fields or equivalent experience
At least 5 years experience in communications field.
Excellent communications skills - both written and oral.
Good understanding of the media advocacy needs of a campaigning organization
Established relationships with media contacts and detailed knowledge with media operations
Demonstrated ability to manage the formulation and implementation of innovative campaign
Communications strategies and content for national or international campaigns.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, staff and priorities across a diverse team.
Excellent computer skills
Experience in budget management
Ability to work effectively in a team but also to work independently and unsupervised.
Experience in working with people of different cultures
Passion for the environment and a strong commitment to the aims and values of Greenpeace.
