SENIOR COMMUNITY FACILITATOR

SurfAid International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the alleviation of human suffering through community-based health programs. We perform our work in isolated regions connected to us through surfing and are professional, highly energized, innovative and youthful in our outlook. Our main program areas are Community Based Health, Emergency Preparation, Environmental Health (Water and Sanitation) and Malaria prevention.

We are now seeking for Senior Community Facilitators (SCF) of the Emergency Preparedness Program to work in the areas of Mentawai Islands - West Sumatera, the duty station will be determined later. The SCF will report to the Progam Manager E-Prep and will work as an integral part of the program management teams. This is a fixed term contract based arrangement work for an initial period of 6 months with a possible extension based on performance and availability of funding.

The role is responsible for training and promoting the Disaster Risk Reduction in the targeted areas in Mentawai islands - West Sumatera through the existing campaign materials and to adapt the materials to suit the local culture. Interaction with SAI staff and program beneficiaries is important together with a detailed understanding of community issues. In conducting his/her duties and responsibilities, field visits will be frequent.

Requirements
The successful applicant will hold a university degree in relevant discipline or equivalent in community facilitation experience with at least 2 years experiences in program monitoring and evaluation, community facilitation or community social work.

In addition, it will be preferable for the successful applicant to possess experience in:

· Experience of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) or Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) programs and/or emergency response programs
· Experience in organisational and community-based training.
· Good analytical and conceptual skills.
· Ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, community members and children.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment.
· Computing skills, including knowledge of Word and Excel
· High personal standards, political and religious sensitivity and possess the qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy.
· Ability to work in a team.

working in isolated regions and/or understanding of the socio-cultural background of Western Islands of Sumatera/Nias.
