Deputy Programme Manager

The British Embassy in Jakarta is part of a world-wide network of 230 Posts, representing British political, economic, security and consular interests overseas.

In April 2011, the UK Government established a dedicated climate change unit in the British Embassy in Jakarta to manage all of the UK’s climate related activities in Indonesia. The UK Climate Change Unit (UKCCU) is looking to fill a LE1 (FCO)/B1 (DFID) vacancy within its team. The successful candidate will be an important member of the climate change team (currently 6 UK nationals and 7 locally engaged). The post will be a permanent contract.

Main duties

    Support to the UKCCU Programme Manager to ensure that the UKCCU programme is delivered on time to budget and to the highest quality
    Supervision and line management responsibilities for one member of staff
    Support to relevant UKCCU Advisers on programme related management
    Some financial management responsibilities including corporate returns and liaison with UK-based colleagues
    Communication and dialogue with UKCCU programme partners to support them to understand and comply with UKCCU procedures and processes
    Communication and networking with other key stakeholder on Climate Change
    Ad Hoc support as required to the Head of UKCCU and other senior members of the UKCCU team
    Monitoring visits (no more than 2-3 per year) to programme sites within Indonesia


Requirements

This broad ranging post requires a highly motivated individual, who is able to work under minimal supervision, with at least 3 years of project and/or programme planning, and implementation or other development related work, preferably in an international organisation. A relevant university degree is desirable.

They must be fluent in written and spoken Indonesian and English, be computer literate, and be able to work effectively in multi-disciplinary, mixed nationality teams. Good organisational and interpersonal skills are necessary.

Knowledge of climate change issues in Indonesia, especially those related to low carbon development, energy, government policy to promote green growth is a requirement. They also need to have good networking with key stakeholder who is working in Climate Change/low carbon work in Indonesia such as government agencies, donor communities and civil society.

There will be a 3 month probation period for this post.

Salary scale for this post ranges from Rp 14,000,000 to Rp 29,000,000 per calendar month. New entrants will normally start at the minimum of the scale although more may be available for an exceptional candidate. Terms and conditions will include a leave allowance and medical benefits. The job holder will be expected to undertake occasional travel within Indonesia. Any necessary training will be provided and funded by the UKCCU.

Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. In relation to this, the successful candidate will need to arrange his/her own Police Certificate. The successful candidate must have the right to work in Indonesia in order to apply.
