Build Change

Build Change is a dynamic international non-profit social enterprise that designs earthquake-resistant houses in developing countries and trains builders, homeowners, government officials, teachers and students how to build them. Build Change operates in Indonesia, China and Haiti and has enabled over 80,000 people to construct safer homes. Working in collaboration with public and private partners, build change aims to create lasting change in construction practices and to minimise the risk of disaster.

Build Change Indonesia is expanding their operations in Indonesia and is seeking to recruit an ambitious and talented Communications and Advocacy Officer.

The ideal candidate will be a driven and dedicated self-starter, with exceptional communication, networking and relationship development skills. You will also have considerable experience in the evolution and management of websites, social media and promotional events with the vision and ability to expand Build Change’s capacity to deliver programs across Indonesia.

Based in the Padang Office, West Sumatra, this position offers a fantastic opportunity for the right person to support and promote the vital work we do in Disaster Risk Reduction while developing and upscaling their skills and experience within an exciting and creative organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the program manager and Build Change Team in developing the Build Change advocacy and promotional strategies
• Cultivate relationships with corporate and philanthropic partners, government agencies, stakeholder organisations, donors, universities, schools and local communities. Identifying potential partners and funders will be especially important.
• Contribute to the creation and development of communication strategies for key projects and campaigns and coordinate their implementation in terms of local national and international advocacy, facilitating outreach to public and target groups
• Promoting and Marketing Build Change activities across Indonesia and internationally
• Creation of marketing concepts and campaigns for selected programs, including creating themes, and coordinating elements needed to produce effective promotional materials on time and within budget
• Manage all Build Change Indonesia’s promotional products, social media sites, publications
• Represent Build Change at meetings, events, forums, conferences across Indonesia and abroad
• Organizing and managing events and promotional campaigns

Qualifications and Experience

• At least 2 years’ experience in marketing and promotions
• Demonstrable skills in networking, relationship development, event management
• Naturally gifted communicator who enjoys establishing alliances with people at all levels, combined with the passion to be a great ambassador for the organisation
• Excellent abilities in website design, social media development, photo editing, internet research
• Open and personable team player who is equally capable of acting on their own initiative
• Flexible, adaptable and enthusiastic person able to remain calm and effective under pressure
• Strong understanding of humanitarian principles and development ethics
• Ability to communicate effectively in Bahasa Indonesia and English
