The Peace Through Development in Disadvantaged Areas (PTDDA) project provides a framework for UNDP's continued support to the Government for enhancing capacity at all levels for conflict prevention and peace building. The PTDDA project builds on the achievements, best practices and lessons learned of its predecessor, Peace Through Development (PTD) project, which was implemented in Maluku, North Maluku and Central Sulawesi. This project will expand to Aceh and East Nusa Tenggara where underlying causes of conflict provide a continued risk to an outbreak of violence and where victims of conflict, in particular vulnerable women and children, continue to need support.

The PTDDA is a five-year project commencing in 2012, which will provide technical assistance and grants for developing and mainstreaming conflict sensitivity, contributing towards a sustainable development process. The project will support social cohesion activities and promote pluralism utilizing tools and mechanisms that have proven to be effective. By mainstreaming conflict sensitive planning for sustainable development, formulating policies and regulations, establishing institutional capacities at all levels in the targeted areas, the project will create safer and more stable communities. While PTD has focused more on integrating conflict sensitivity into the normal development process, PTDDA will move further by taking advantage of the opportunities for synergies among conflict prevention, disaster risk reduction, access to justice and poverty reduction.
