The World Agroforestry Centre
(also known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry or ICRAF)
is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge
about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural
livelihoods.
As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear
on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close
collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy
recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.
The
Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted
in 23 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the
Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive

About the Position
The AgFor Communication Assistant will assist theCommunication Officer of the project
‘Agroforestry and Forestry in Sulawesi: Linking Knowledge to Action’ (AgFor
Sulawesi),which is managed by the World Agroforestry Centre and
funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), through assisting clear and effective communication between
scientists, farmers, agricultural and forestry extension workers, district and
provincial governments, CIDA and its other projects in Sulawesi, partner
organizations, NGOs, educational institutions, other projects and
the media.
Based
at the Bursa Pengetahuan Kawasan Timur Indonesia (BaKTI) office in Makassar,under the supervision of the AgFor Communication Officer
and with reference to the Senior Project Leader and Regional Communication
Specialist, to contribute inestablishingand implementingthe communication plan, including:
* Identifying extension and other information needs for the range of AgFor stakeholders
* Developing and implementing internal and external AgFor information systems and products
* Contributing to writing, rewritingandediting material in English and Indonesian (in collaboration with scientific staff and other writers and editors as necessary)
* Collaborating tothe development of other communication products such as digital, print, audio and visual communication materials, including a website
* Administrative and financial record-keeping related to AgFor communication
Requirements:
* Minimum of Diploma 3 with 2year’s experience in development communication, journalism, film, development or other media or related sectors
* Good command of written and spoken English and Indonesian
* Self-directed; well-organized; able to meet deadlines
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a multicultural environment
* Able to generate creative, practical approaches to overcome challenging situations
* Willingness to undertake frequent travel
* Familiarity with one or more local languages of Sulawesi (desirable but not essential)

The World Agroforestry Centre is an

terms and will be for an initial period of 1 (one) year, renewable subject to 3
