Indonesia*

Protection International (PI) is an international non-profit organization
that brings protection strategies and security management tools to human
rights defenders (HRDs) at risk. PI is present in Europe (Belgium), Asia
(Thailand, Indonesia), Latin America and Africa. PI is seeking to recruit a
Protection Officer (PO) for its work in and from Indonesia.

*The role*

The PO reports to PI’s representative in Indonesia and works with partners
(human rights organisations, communities and individual human rights
defenders) on the protection of HRD at risk in the country. PI has been
working with partners focussing on issues as varied as rights of religious
minorities, rights violated in context of corruption, rights of LGTB
people, and rights of communities in contexts of exploitation of natural
resources.

The PO supports Indonesian partners in improving their security strategies
and management.

*Main responsibilities** of the PO are to:*

   -

   advise, train and accompany Indonesian human rights organisations and
   individuals defending human rights in managing their own security and the
   security of people whose rights they seek to protect. PI’s current
   programmes have a focus on those defending the freedom of religion and the
   rights and freedoms of religious minorities. PI prepares expanding its
   support to organisations, communities and individuals defending human
   rights in contexts of exploitation of natural resources. PI seeks to build
   protection capacity in main stream organisations and umbrella organisation;
   -

   support the review of the multiple year strategic plan for PI in
   Indonesia office;
   -

   support further development and implementation of planning, monitoring
   and evaluation tools;
   -

   represent PI towards local and international contacts, partners and
   authorities in Indonesia and develop strategic collaboration;
   -

   analyse the security situation for HRDs and minorities groups in
   Indonesia in a manner that can be understood by a non-Indonesian audience;
   -

   contribute to PI’s internal learning through research, analysis,
   pilot-projects, documentation of security and protection strategies, active
   sharing with colleagues outside Indonesia;
   -

   support fund-raising efforts and recruitment of new staff;
   -

   undertake administrative and financial tasks as required in a small
   office.


*Skills & Experience*

   -

   University degree in law, human rights, political science, social
   sciences or related field
   -

   5 years of work experience, 3 years of experience in team management
   -

   Experience in human rights work in Indonesia
   -

   Experience in project management (including financial dimension)
   -

   Experience as educator/trainer
   -

   Excellent analytical and research skills
   -

   Excellent interpersonal, communication, representational and negotiation
   skills
   -

   Excellent spoken and written English and Indonesian
   -

   Experience with security management and protection work is an asset
   -

   Ability to deliver independently, high adaptability, ability to work
   under stress in a sensitive environment
   -

   High level of computer literacy
   -

   Available for travel, in Indonesia and abroad, and flexible working hours


*The offer*

One-year, renewable contract with six month probation period. Health
insurance cover. Minimal relocation package if applicable.
