CIFOR is looking for a Research officer, Global Comparative Study on REDD+, Module 2
Overview
One of CIFOR’s core research themes is on enhancing the role of forests in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Forests and Livelihoods Portfolio is one of three portfolios at CIFOR that contribute to this research theme.
The research officer will be part of a climate research team and will support scientists in the Livelihoods Portfolio. He/she will perform a variety of tasks contributing to both research and project management.
Duties and responsibilities
1) Research:
assist the data analyst in coordinating phase two data collection and entry for 23 study sites in six countries
manage databases in Access and MS Excel
maintain, update and ensure consistency of the GCS-M2 Codebook in close collaboration with the country teams
check and clean data in collaboration with country teams
conduct statistical analysis, background literature searches, and writing to support the preparation of M2 research results/reports/presentations
serve as lead author for one or two publications
coordinate with the project administrator to ensure all M2 lists are up to date
handle data requests from heads of country teams
Assist in other research activities as required.
2) Project management (in collaboration with the Project Administrator):
manage the M2 information relevant to data management
assist the data analyst in ensuring Module 2 data sharing and confidentiality agreements are met
take minutes of meetings and do translations
other project management activities as required.
Education, experience, technical skills and competencies
Master’s degree in social sciences, economics, forestry or environmental sciences
strong skills in quantitative/statistical analysis required
strong competency with MS Access, Excel, and other statistical software preferred
minimum of one year of working experience in international organizations preferred but not essential
good English language skills, both oral and written, are essential
familiarity with forests and climate change/REDD+ is helpful but not required
excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to work in a team.

demonstrates initiative, capable of working independently and as an effective team player
good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with people in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment

Terms and conditions
This is nationally recruited position. CIFOR offers a competitive remuneration commensurate with skills and experience.
The initial contract is for 2 years with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of this position, and available resources. The position is based in Bogor, Indonesia.
