SCI - SETARA Project seeks consultant to develop book bank material

SCI - SETARA Project is looking for a consultant to develop some book bank materials for the implementation of Literacy Boost activities in Cilincing sub-district, Jakarta Utara; consist of topic primer books, rhyme books, letter blend books, and folklore books.


Scope of Services

1.    DESCRIPTION / BACKGROUND OF PROGRAM

Entering school year of 2012 – 2013, Save the Children implemented a project in North Jakarta and Belu, NTT; named SETARA (Strengthening Education Trough Awareness and Reading Achievement). SETARA offers solutions to inter-related constraints to primary school access and attendance in a poor area in North Jakarta by implementing Literacy Boost and a Comprehensive School Health and Safety (CSHS) approach; as well as further school readiness by implementing actions that contribute to child health, early literacy, and school readiness among pre-school students aged 4-6 (ECCE) in Belu District, NTT.

SETARA, through Literacy Boost component will address low educational attainment among disadvantaged Indonesian primary schools in Jakarta Utara through the regular, intensive assessment of student performance in literacy, the development of teacher skills, the mobilization of communities, and advocacy with stakeholders for additional support for literacy programming.

Save the Children will provide book banks to target schools and communities. Book banks will consist of books from bookstores which suitable to support reading activities and literacy development of the targeted children. Also, Save the Children will develop some books with School Health & Nutrition and DRR topics to establish the linkage of Literacy Boost and CSHS program.  Besides those books, we will also provide topic primers books, rhyme books, letter blend books, and folklore books with stories from the local North Jakarta or DKI Jakarta province.
    
2. The Consultant has agreed to:

  • Develop 30 type (title) of books (specification is in deliverables section below)
  • Elaborate the topics and ideas from Literacy boost team to be the content/ story of the books.
  • Make illustration of the books, including pictures and colors. 
  • Consult the content and send the drafts to  LB team before being printed.
  • Manage the printing of the books and the shipping of the books to Save the Children Office.
  • Follow the regulations of Save the Children regarding the development of KIE materials (for example: placement of SC and donor logo, etc.). This will be done through consultation with Literacy Boost -SETARA team and other relevant staffs.
 
3. Deliverables:
Consultant will develop 30 books and manage the printing of 1.350 books with detail as below:

Book size : 6,5 x 4,2 inch  (half of F4 paper 100 gram)



4.  Time frame:
Starting 22 January until 28 February 2014

5. Term of payment:
30% after contract signed and the rest 70% after deliverables completed, by Bank transfer

6. Reporting line
Consultant will report to SPO Literacy Boost - SETARA
