VACANCY – AGRICULTURAL OFFICER

The Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) is a French non-profit organization working in over 30 countries worldwide to provide emergency response, early recovery, and development assistance to communities in need. ACTED’s interventions seek to cover multiple aspects of humanitarian and development crises through a multidisciplinary approach that is both global and local, and adapted to each context. ACTED aims to guarantee the sustainability of relief interventions carried out during crises by remaining in the field after the emergency to engage in long-term support to communities in food security, health, education, economic assistance, microfinance, advocacy, and cultural promotion. ACTED’s actions are needs based and identified in a participatory manner with communities in the areas where we are present. ACTED has been active in Indonesia since April 2005, assisting those affected by the tsunami and Nias earthquake and is now working in North Sumatra and Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT).



Currently ACTED has an immediate need for qualified and experienced Agricultural Officer in Malaka District, NTT to participate in a conservation agriculture project.

ACTED is recruiting for the following position to be based in the Betun (Malaka District) project office. AGRICULTURAL OFFICER

The Agricultural Officer is responsible for mobilizing target farmers’ groups to participate in the project, collecting baseline data, delivering training and mentoring to farmers’ groups, conducting awareness campaigns and organize village-level activities including model plots for agricultural enhancement, and monitoring. The Agricultural Officer will be based in Betun, Malaka District project Office, but will travel daily to the communities to which they are assigned. Key tasks include:
-          Ensure that authorities and community members in target villages understand the project and agree to participate in activities;
-          Conduct awareness campaigns regarding the project and its activities;
-          Collection of baseline data;
-          Facilitate the strengthening of farmers’ groups;
-          Implement technical training for farmers’ groups;
-          Facilitate farmers’ participation in conservation agriculture technologies and practices as necessary;
-          Work with village authorities, community members, and farmers’ groups to solve problems and overcome challenges that arise during project implementation;

Professional Qualifications and Skills:
-          Minimum two years’ experience in Agricultural programing and/or diplomas related to agriculture;
-          Proven experience of community mobilisation;
-          Strong knowledge of implementing awareness campaigns;
-          Experience in conservation agricultural activities an advantage;
-          Problem-solving skills, result-oriented and sensitivity to gender issues;
-          Good computer skills including general office software applications (Word, Power Point, Excel);
-       Fluency in Tetun language essential, knowledge of English an advantage;

Personal Qualities:
-       Flexible and adaptable, willing to learn new skills and conform to new systems and situations;
-       Honest, responsible, self-motivated and able to take initiative under minimum supervision;
-       Ability to work as part of a team in a cross cultural environment;
