Operational
Manager Wildlife Protection Unit
Bukit Tigapuluh Landscape Conservation Program (BLCP) is a 5-year
project starting in 2014 to establish an ecosystem restoration concession (ERC)
with the goal to protect natural forest
coverage in order to secure high levels of biodiversity and the integrity
of the Bukit Tigapuluh ecosystem including livelihoods of
indigenous tribes. The programme will manage former forest concessions in close co-operation
with local communities.The programme is executed by Frankfurt Zoological Society in co-operation with WWF Indonesia and supported by
the German Government and KfW Development Bank.
The Wildlife Protection Unit (WPU) is a community based patrol unit operating
in the Bukit Tigapuluh Landscape Province of Jambi, Sumatra.The aim of the WPU
is to gather information about wildlife and forest crimes including forest
encroachment and support of law enforcement agencies.
Objective
The responsibility of the Operational Manager comprises the whole range of
patrol team management, monitoring and training. Up to eight WPU teams need to
be coordinated through developing work plans and providing patrol schedules.
Patrol teams need to be briefed and debriefed before and after patrol to fulfill patrol
requirements. Patrol performances are monitored with the aid of MIST software;
thematic maps need to be produced in close cooperation with the GIS officer. Monthly patrol
reports need to be reviewed to comply with professional standard. Planning,
coordination and execution of regular in house training is part of the job, as
well as the organisation and execution of regular Ranger-Training camps.Part of the job
is routine
field trips to verify information gathered
from patrol teams.
The WPU Operational
Manager coordinates internal with the FZS program director
and external with leading staff of BKSDA Jambi and of TNBT.
WANTED:
The successful candidate will be a strong character with profound
background in leadership of an operative unit. Physical fitness is a must. Experiences
in co-operation with law enforcement agencies are a strong additional qualification.
Education
Minimum S1 in green science
(biology, forestry, conservation, ecology etc.) or adequate long term work experience in security operations (patrol related work)
Work experiences
At least 3 years practical experience in environmental protection issues with
local and/or international organizations
Experiences in supervising and coordinating larger teams (at minimum
20 staff)
Technical requirements

and policies related to conservation, forestry and environmental law

Computer literate ; skilled in
working with Microsoft Word and Excel

Fluency in spoken and written
English

Organised, coordinated and self-motivated

Strong interpersonal and
