Background:
The
IUWASH program is a sixty-month program funded by the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID) and implemented under the leadership of DAI.
IUWASH works with government, private sector, NGOs, community groups and other
stakeholders to improve access to clean water supply and sanitation in urban
areas in Indonesia. The overall objective of IUWASH is to assist the Government
of Indonesia to make significant progress in achieving the MDG target of expanding
access to clean water and sanitation by expanding public access to these
services. Some expected results to be achieved are: 2 million people in urban
areas can gain access to improved water supply, 200,000 people in urban areas
have access to sanitation facilities, and the cost per unit of water paid by
the poor in targeted areas decreases by at least 20%.
To
achieve the above, the assistance provided by the project is divided into three
main technical components, including:
- Mobilizing demand for water supply and sanitation services ;
- Improve and expand the provision of water and sanitation services, and
- Strengthening policy and financial environment conducive to the provision of water and sanitation services.
One
of the strategic IUWASH program is to target the development of Comprehensive
Sanitation Program, which consists of Sanitation Promotion/Campaign &
Social Marketing, for the urban sewerage management system, in this case for
Kota Bogor.
Kota
Bogor
is a medium sized city in West Java province, Indonesia. Located 54 km south of
Jakarta, its population continues to grow and creates issue for sanitation
sectors. Through central government funding in 2012 a Small Scale Sewerage
System (SSSS) was already constructed,
designed to serve the domestic waste water treatment house up to as many as 600
household connections. Up to now, the new facility only has 401 domestic
customers. To meet the capacity of the SSSS, City Government has been allocated
a budget to finance new installation of piping networks, which will be used to
finance the addition of sewer piping network to the main network to the SSSS.
IUWASH will provide support in the form of community development activities,
promotion and connecting part of the network to connects the household sewer to
the existing network of SSSS, with a series of integrated activities between
the City Government and the IUWASH, which adds the service coverage for
domestic sewerage for as many as 134 house connections, and particularly under
this program the target is the residential areas of
Villa Citra.
