Call for applications: Protection Officer- Protection International


Protection International is calling for candidates to apply for the position of Protection Officer for Indonesia.

Location:          The position is based in Jakarta with frequent (in-country) travels

About Protection International:
Protection International (PI) is an international, non-profit organization based in Brussels that brings protection strategies and security management tools to human rights defenders (HRD) at risk. Since 2004, Protection International has been working with local partners in over thirty countries throughout the world. PI seeks to contribute to a situation where human rights defenders are recognized as legitimate actors for social change and to an environment where they can effectively exercise their rights to defend universally recognised human rights.

About the job:
You will be part of PI’s efforts to build Indonesian HRDs and community based activists’ capacity in protection and security management. This entails a range of activities, including workshops, coordination meetings and other types of direct engagement with target groups. You also support advocacy activities with local, national and international stakeholders. Networking with local, national, regional and international human rights NGOs and interest groups serves to reinforce and create working relationships and explore possible partnerships on joint activities in the interest of Indonesian HRDs.
Capacity building activities are informed by existing and new tools and materials, which you will help adjust, modify and develop (based on thorough research and analysis) to the needs and challenges of target groups. You will be directly accountable to the country representative and produce regular program and narrative reports as well as basic financial reports.
PI staff abide by and update organizational security plans and contribute to a conducive multi-cultural working environment based on equality and respect for diversity.

About you:
With at least 5 years of experience working in a (multi-cultural) Human Rights or other not-for-profit organization. You have demonstrated knowledge of and a high commitment towards the fulfillment of human rights. You have at minimum a bachelor’s degree in (human rights) law, development studies, social or political sciences or any other related field. You have extensive experience with capacity building and training of adult audiences with varying levels of education. You are familiar with conflict resolution methods and may have facilitated community driven conflict resolution efforts. Your excellent diplomatic and communication skills enable you to work with diverse audiences, from grassroots activists to local authorities and diplomats.
You are willing to travel frequently, and adjust to flexible working hours and conditions. Your independent working spirit leads you to take initiatives and follow up on ongoing work, always keeping in close contact with your colleagues, particularly your supervisor.  Your excellent ability to plan and prioritize work enables you to implement and adjust work plans, also when under pressure.
You may have experience with fundraising to look for new opportunities and contribute to proposal and report writing and are familiar with principles and practices of monitoring and evaluation. You are a native Indonesian speaker and have excellent spoken and written English language skills.
