Chemonics International is seeking highly qualified candidates for the DCOP position on anticipated USAID-funded LESTARI project

Chemonics International Inc., an international development consulting firm based in Washington, D.C., seeks Indonesian national candidates for the position of Deputy Chief of Party on an anticipated USAID-funded LESTARI project in Indonesia, to be implemented under the REPLACE IDIQ. The project seeks to reduce land based greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and conserve valuable biodiversity in carbon rich and biologically significant forest and mangrove ecosystems in priority landscapes in Indonesia. The LESTARI project will build on achievements made under USAID’s Indonesia Forests and Climate Support (IFACS) project to address drivers of deforestation and degradation and to conserve important ecosystems and species. LESTARI will reduce emissions and conserve biodiversity in selected landscapes through improving (a) district land-use governance, (b) management of conservation areas and protection of key species, (c) private sector and industry practices, and (d) constituencies for conservation among relevant government and nongovernmental stakeholders. The ideal candidates will have a record of successfully implementing USAID or other donor-funded biodiversity/forestry conservation programs as well as a passion for making a difference in the lives of people. The Deputy Chief of Party will assist the Chief of Party (COP) in managing all project activities.

Illustrative responsibilities include:
·         Leads efforts to coordinate with other donor-funded projects
·         Manages relations with counterparts and USAID
·         Acts as COP in COP’s absence
·         Contributes to the project work plans, other contract deliverables
·         Assists in strategic planning, management, and budgeting
·         Assists with monitoring and evaluating project activities
·         Supervises all short-term technical advisors
·         Contributes to regular and ad-hoc reports.
Qualifications:

·       At least ten years of forestry or biodiversity conservation experience.  Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the four main component areas.
·        Proven experience in empowering forest dependent communities, district and national governments, or the private sector in improved management of natural resources, conservation, and forestry in Indonesia.
·       At least a Master’s Degree in environmental sciences, natural resources management, forestry, ecology or other related fields.
·       Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written, to fulfill the technical and managerial responsibilities proposed.
·       Prior experience in the administration of similar size international donor support programs with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision and budgeting.
·       Strong English writing and speaking skills. Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and knowledge of Indonesian culture preferred.
