SME Assessment Team Leader
Mercy Corps Indonesia is interested in piloting support for Indonesian and local Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in the supply chains that support international corporations. The Consultant will be expected to lead a baseline survey including data collection from existing Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs), conducting key informant interviews and diagnostic assessment of the current status of SME business environment and financing in Batam Kota, Indonesia. The survey will serve as the basis for further recommendations for SME social investment and development.
 
The objectives of this project are to assess the following:
1.       Current status/health of the SME environment in Batam, including challenges and opportunities, with focus on SMEs that support Batam shipbuilding, fabrication yard and manufacturing industries.
2.       Capital needs of SMEs in Batam.
3.       Barriers to SME development in Batam, including regulatory, business enabling environment and other barriers.
4.       Potential interventions to support SME development, growth and investment.

The SME Assessment Team Leader will lead the baseline data collection and analysis (includes some fieldwork in Batam with follow-up report writing in Jakarta) in close coordination with existing Mercy Corps staff, develop recommendations for potential interventions, lead the writing of the final report, document information and data collected in a systematic manner.
 
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 year of professional experience working in research, SME and informal sector development, or other similar work experience ;
  • Record of success completion of similar related surveys and report writing;
  • Proficient in quantitative and qualitative research;
  • Excellent writing skills in English and verbal communication are necessary;.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint software.
This position will be as temporary staff for 2 months (2 weeks of fieldwork in Batam; Report writing, data analysis in Jakarta).
