SMART Lab Program - Request for Proposal on STEM Camps and Competition

Request for Proposal (RFP)
Mobile Programming Applications to Support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Learning Training and Competition

A. Background

SMART Lab Program is a university partnership programbetween USAID andSampoerna School of Education (SSE), in collaboration with Intel Indonesia Corporation, the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI)Tufts University, and Komunitas Robot Indonesia (KRI) with the ultimate goal to improve STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) at high school level in Indonesia through establishing four STEM model schools, training and preparing STEM teachers and inspiring 6.000 students. SSE has come to a cooperation with Universitas Siswa Bangsa Internasional – Sampoerna University (SU) for the operationalization of the SMART Lab Program.
In order to support this program’s goal, the SMART Lab Program initiates a mobile programming applications to support STEM learning training and competition. The training is to be delivered for senior high school students, specifically for those from model schools. In this workshop, students are trained to develop simple mobile programming applications that may support STEM learning and teaching. These applications can be in the form of interactive animations on science learning or simple games to support Math learning.
The training will be conducted in three batches in three different areas: Jakarta, Malang/Batu and Garut with 30 students as participants for each training batch. Each training batch will take place for 5 full days with the last two days for creating the applications and presenting them.
Right after the three batches of the training end, selected pairs of students will join mobile programming application competition to be conducted at SU campus.

B. Objectives
This training and competition are primarily aimed to :
  • Introduce mobile programming to senior high school students
  • Motivate senior high school students by showing what they can actually do with mobile programming
  • Show to senior high school students that building mobile programming applications, however simple they are, can be done at their stage of age
  • Enable senior high school students to build and create useful applications that can support STEM learning

C. Scope of Work
The hired consultant is required to do the following tasks:
  • Design and develop a module, including work sheets, for the training
  • Facilitate three batches of training at three different areas (Jakarta, Malang/Batu, and Garut)
  • Design and develop instruments for the evaluation of the three batches of training
  • Write a report of the three batches of training
  • Design a mobile programming application plan and challenge for the competition at SU Campus
  • Design scoring rubrics for the competition
  • Write a report of the competition
