Background
|
Since January 2013, Mercy Corps Indonesia
has been implementing a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) /Resilience programme in
DKI Jakarta and West Java. The overall objective of the programme is to
improve resilience of urban and peri-urban populations vulnerable to hazards
through strengthening the capacity of local communities, local government,
and private sector actors. The DRIVE-C Programme has been working with 9
communities in the textile/garment industry areas within Jakarta, Tangerang
City, Bandung Regency and West Bandung Regency. From March to April 2014, the
DRIVE-C Programme facilitated a community-based Vulnerability and Capacity
Assessment (VCA) in those four areas. The assessment found that all of the
surface water sources such as river, shallow wells and ponds had contamination
from industrial wastewater.
