GGGI vacancy : Senior System Dynamics Modelling Specialist

Background

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) seeks to hire a Senior System Dynamic Modelling with environmental  knowledge background   to support their collaborative green growth program with the Government of Indonesia (GoI) especially in East  Kalimantan in developing  East Kalimantan  Green Master Plan for their Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

GGGI is an international organization founded in June 2010 (www.gggi.org). GGGI is dedicated to pioneering and diffusing a new model of economic growth, known as “green growth”. This simultaneously targets key aspects of economic performance, such as poverty reduction, job creation, social inclusion and those of environmental sustainability, such as mitigation of climate change and security of access to clean water. GGGI’s approach is particularly suited to developing countries because it starts from broad-based progress in living standards and growth. Since 2013, GGGI has worked in close collaboration with the Government of Indonesia in the GoI-GGGI Green Growth Program (GGP).
 
The Jakarta office is offering a part-time consultant position, who will support GGGI’s sub-national work in East Kalimantan Government. The position will involve to East Kalimantan as needed. 

Role overview

He/she will collaborate closely with an environmental economist, GIS expert and the Government of East Kalimantan to review a green economy model and related data and documentation and support the EK Government in improving and refining this model to support decision-making in East Kalimantan’s Economic Zones.  The model aims to demonstrate the causal stock and flow  in natural resource use and its impact on sustainable development over the medium and long term under different development scenarios. He/she will provide the analysis to the EK Government to support the selection of program/projects in EK Special Economic Zones. The results will be used as a guidance to manage economic zones in East Kalimantan  in a sustainable way contributing green growth outcomes set by the province and based on the Green Growth Assessment Process (GGAP).
 
Key responsibilities
1.       Review and understand the assumptions and data used in an existing system dynamics model applied on East Kalimantan economic zones
2.       Assess the gaps and challenges associated with the current model.
3.       Build an updated adapted methodology for the model and with additional data and information, support the East Kalimantan Government to re-run the model to test several economic development scenarios to more comprehensively demonstrate the economic, environmental and social impact of these scenarios. 
4.       Present the findings and challenges, including assumptions used, in workshops/FGD with relevant stakeholders in EK.
5.       Recommend policies and provide guidance to implement the EK Green Economy Master Plan for all economic zones.
6.       Support other related activities as needed.
 
The position is expected to participate and actively contribute to government-run workshops and related FGDs and work as part of the hybrid teams that GGGI has established with each of our GoI counterparts at  sub-national level.  As a supporting member of a small but diverse program team, he/she  will have  responsibilities and  need to be flexible and responsive to  tight deadlines.
 
Skills and Qualifications
 
-          At least a Master in Environmental Science, preferably with a focus on Spatial and Environmental Management/Development
-          Minimum  5  years of relevant modeling experience with international partners, ideally with an international organization or NGOs
-          Excellent in using system dynamic modelling and environmental impact assessment that value environmental and social costs and benefits
-          Outstanding communications skills and  working fluency in English
-          Ability to deliver quality products independently
