Vacancy Announcement: Communication & Outreach Specialist, Jakarta based

Tetra Tech ARD is currently accepting expressions of interest for the Communication & Outreach Specialist, Jakarta based on our USAID LESTARI project. USAID’s LESTARI project supports the Government of Indonesia to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and conserve biodiversity in carbon rich and biologically significant forest and mangrove ecosystems.


Job Summary: The Communication & Outreach Specialist is responsible for the effective design and implementation of a broad range of campaigns that result in a call to action to mobilize LESTARI landscape government and civil society leaders to take aggressive action in support of climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation. These campaigns will involve multi-stakeholder forums (MSFs) and opinion leaders. Tailored to local opportunities and constraints, campaigns will involve a diversity of traditional, social and locally-driven media approaches. Campaigns will focus within LESTARI landscapes, and may also focus at the provincial and national levels to ensure adequate policy and financial support for LESTARI landscapes work. S/he is part of the LESTARI Communications and Advocacy Team, working in close coordination with the Media Advocacy Specialist and Project Communication Specialist in Jakarta, and the Landscape Communication and Advocacy Specialists and other landscape-based technical staff, subcontractors and grantees.

Requirements include experience with progressive responsibility in communications, including but not limited to environmental journalism, and communications strategy development and implementation; previous experience working for an international research organization or other donor projects preferred; experience in developing and implementing effective environmental and/or climate change communications strategies preferred; experience developing and adapting multi-media messages for a diverse range of stakeholders; demonstrated ability to train and build capacity for outreach and campaign; demonstrated ability to develop and lead effective public campaigns; strong written and verbal communications skills is a must; proven management skills; native fluency in spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia; professional competency in spoken and written English; familiarity with USAID procedures and regulations is an advantage; ability to engage in activities occurring in multiple field sites with multiple stakeholders across Indonesia; willingness to travel extensively in Indonesia. University degree in related field required.
