1. BACKGROUND
Indonesia’s oil palm industry represents both a significant threat and a significant opportunity to the realization of national development objectives to reduce social gaps and to balance the use, availability, and sustainability of natural resources and the environment. Indonesia’s oil palm sector expanded from 1.34 million ha to 11.3 million ha between 1990 and 2015. This expansion has been linked to positive impacts on smallholder incomes, as well as growth in output, income, and added value in other sectors of the economy. However, the expansion of the sector has also been a driving factor in high deforestation rates and peatland degradation across the archipelago. Efforts must therefore be made to ensure that palm oil production in Indonesia is sustainable.
ASLI is a public-private partnership of USAID, Winrock International, and Perkumpulan Sawit Lestari (PSL), which represents several leading palm oil producing companies. ASLI seeks to strengthen private sector initiatives that address the link between deforestation and the palm oil industry.  The purpose of the ASLI activity is to mitigate the impacts of climate change from deforestation in Indonesia as a result of land clearing for palm oil production. This will be achieved through direct engagement with the private sector, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, civil society organizations, Government of Indonesia and other stakeholders such as media, academia, public figures and non-traditional partners. ASLI also supports USAID/Indonesia’s Signature Effort, approved by the Development Lab in December 2014, to integrate innovative partnerships and business models to address climate change mitigation challenges. The $2.6 million project (USAID and PSL contribute $1.3 million each) will run from March 2016 – March 2018.
The following outcomes are expected from ASLI:
1.    Enhanced technical research to support policy and regulatory reform.
2.    Sustainability-related smallholder characteristics defined and needs assessed.
3.    Framework for monitoring and reporting progress toward zero deforestation efforts.

  1. Just received a cheque for over $500.

Many times people don't believe me when I tell them about how much money you can earn taking paid surveys online...

So I show them a video of myself actually getting paid over $500 for taking paid surveys to set the record straight once and for all.
