Project
Title:
Exploring
and analyzing situations and needs of children with disability aged 12-18 on
SRHR as a basis for developing initiatives to reduce the vulnerabilities.
Personnel Needed:
1 Junior researcher – Quantitative
1 Junior researcher – Qualitative
1 Report Writer
Background:
RutgersWPF Indonesia and NLR work together
to gather evidence on children with disability and leprosy to support the
program implementation and measurement of outcome. The program experiences
found the needs of children with neglect to sexual and reproductive health and
rights education and services. This is contributing to vulnerability of
children with disability aged 12-18 years old especially girls as victims of
sexual violence, unwanted pregnancies, and faced challenges in building
relationships and planning for families. At several
locations, there is currently no concrete information and data on the
vulnerability of adolescents with disabilities and how educational and services
institutions and also CBOs respond to their SRHR situation. The absence of
evidence and data related to KAP and needs on SRHR among children with
disability aged 12-18 has made children with disabilities left behind in SRHR
programs or even some SRHR programs developed and acknowledged for them but to
be improperly targeted, both content and methodology.
Exploring and analyzing situations and
needs of children with disability aged 12-18 on SRHR are crucial as a basis for
developing initiatives to reduce these vulnerabilities. These evidences and
data will help governments, local NGOs, education and health services
institutions and CBOs to develop evidence-based program models in order to
respond their SRHR needs in inclusive ways.
Target Area
The target area is Manggarai district - NTT and
Gowa District – South Sulawesi.
Objectives
The overall objective
of the assessment is to provide a deeper and more comprehensive analysis of:
1.
the
knowledge, attitude, and practice of sexual reproductive health and right
occurring amongst leprosy and children with disability,
2.
the
factors that affect vulnerability to sexual violence among children with
disability and other children, and
3.
identify
access of leprosy and CwzDs to health, information and education services and
its gaps.
Outputs
Outputs of this
assessment will be a set of evidence base data to implement service and program
for leprosy and children with disability that includes:
1.
Descriptive
result of knowledge, attitude and practice of SRHR
2.
Analytical
results of factors affect the vulnerability of SRHR
3.
Access
and gap mapping in the term of health, information, and education service.
Approach/Methodology
By using Mix Method Explorative design, the survey
adopted a 2-part methodology:
·
Surveys
are administered to collect quantitative information. The questionnaire
included KAP, accessibility, and vulnerability of children with disability
issues.
·
Focus
groups are held to collect qualitative information. Community leaders, parents,
care givers, community members, health providers are targeted. The FGD will be
conducted through knowledge café approach on data collecting and probing.
The assessment is designed to
explore the knowledge, attitude, and practice of leprosy and CWD regarding
sexual reproductive health and right and analyses the vulnerability and access
to health, education, information, and other services. This design is
particularly relevant given the gender norms of programme sites which we
attempt to capture through the role relation of the communities.
Key activities will include;
a). Develop
survey questionnaire,
b). Briefing for
data collection for local partner,
c). Conduct
quantitative data collection, FGD and in-depth interview on relevant parties,
d). Perform
data entry and quantitative data processing,
e). Perform
analysis using SPSS for quantitative data and Atlas-ti for qualitative data,
f). Perform combined analysis and interpret
finding results,
g). Prepare
report and completion report.
Timeframe
It is expected that a contract
will be signed very soon (in the 3rd week of November 2017. After receiving
comments from NLR and our local partner (CSOs), final versions of the study,
the report and the data should be delivered by end of January 2018.
