Communications Assistant at USAID BERSAMA Prevention Program in Eastern Indonesia


POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:               Communications Assistant
PROJECT:                           USAID BERSAMA – Gender-Based Violence Prevention Program in Eastern Indonesia
LOCATION:                        Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia
DEPARTMENT:                  Civil Society & Education
REPORTS TO:                     CSO GBV Capacity Building Manager


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications Assistant will support all communications of the project. S/he will produce regular reports and success stories for the USAID BERSAMA program progress and accomplishments for a variety of outside actors including USAID.  The incumbent will work closely with the Government Liaison Advisor, SBCC Advisor (IR1 Lead), Organizational Development Advisor, Field Oversight Advisor, as well as Field Officers in Papua and West Papua to gather information for weekly bullet-point reports, success stories, and a monthly program narrative.  Additionally, the Communications Assistant will play a leading role in the writing of quarterly and annual reports, the program annual work plan, and developing ad hoc presentations and reports as required.

This position requires travel to the field to gather information for reporting as well as to develop the reporting skills of program staff. The Communications Assistant will work with the Monitoring & Evaluation team and support M&E functions as necessary. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

•             Write weekly bullet-point and monthly reports
•             Develop weekly posting for social media (facebook /linkedin/instragram)
•             Lead the development of quarterly and annual reports, with assistance from M&E Specialist, other M&E and program staff as necessary
•             Assist with drafting program annual work plans
•             Identify and draft success stories for monthly and quarterly reporting
•             Provide training and ongoing guidance to field staff for drafting success stories
•             Finalize reports produced by consultants and program staffs
•             Assist with periodic in-country program or other meetings as necessary
•             Develop ‘marketing’ materials highlighting program accomplishments for USAID, and other donors and partners
•             Support USAID BERSAMA’s media strategy as necessary
•             Other tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCES
              
•             Master’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree in communications, international development, or related field
•             Minimum 2 years communications experience
•             Should have previous experience working on USAID or international development projects;
•             Excellent management, communication, and organization skills are essential

•             Work well with all levels of employees, be flexible in nature, have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader    organization/  project.
•             High-level computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) are required.
•             Willingness to travel frequently in the project area.
•             Familiar and experience with all major social media platforms.
