Overview of Role:
The “Indonesia Country Director” is fully responsible for ensuring the
Indonesia programme creates and delivers its agreed mission contributions to
the highest standards prescribed by ZSL head office, and external donors and
stakeholders. The successful candidate will be the lead ZSL representative
in Indonesia and be expected to maintain and expand ZSL presence in-country,
as well as establish professional relationships with the Government of
Indonesia and in-country partners. One of several country managers within
ZSL’s operational structure, s/he will be expected to participate in and
report on relevant government and stakeholder meetings.
Main Duties:
• Oversee the ZSL Indonesia team, ensuring full compliance with all
ZSL legal, tax and financial reporting requirements.
• Responsible for making key, strategic in-country operational
decisions in consultation with Head of Asia Programmes and the Director of
Conservation.
• Actively involved in recruitment and management of staff, including
performance monitoring, mentoring, and training.
• Ensure that the country budget of up to £10,000,000 through 2020 is
appropriately managed, spent, documented, and reported on, both internally
and externally.
• Work closely with staff in London and Indonesia to develop projects
and fundraising proposals that align with the national strategy, country
strategy, and ZSL’s mission.
• Responsible to the Head of Asia Programmes for the generation of
accurate and timely financial and programmatic reports to donors,
stakeholders, government, and ZSL.
• Represent ZSL and ZSL Indonesia specifically at national and
international conferences and workshops as needed.
Person Specification:
• Proven leadership and team management skills; specialized training
in personnel management desirable.
• Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating
strategic plans and policy.
• Strong skills in large conservation and/or development project
planning, financing, management, implementation, and evaluation; experience
working with government and with donors/government aid agencies.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills in English; fluent
in oral and written Bahasa Indonesia.
• The preferred candidate will be an Indonesian National. Experience
working in International NGOs is essential in Indonesia and/or other
countries in Southeast Asia.
• Excellent understanding and experience in developing partnerships,
fund-raising, donor strategies, functions, governmental and international
relations.
• People management, coaching and capacity building/development
skills.
• Strategic thinking and decision-making skills.
