Senior Policy Officer - CDP


This one-to-two-year role will support CDP in developing and delivering a program of engagement with policymakers in Indonesia, with the goal of addressing deforestation that results from production plantation forests and cash crops, including palm oil.. This work forms part of a wider project being conducted by CDP with project partners following support from the Packard Foundation

Key responsibilities include:
  • Planning and delivering a program of policy engagement and advocacy activity relating to deforestation and palm oil, to be delivered in Indonesia over the next year, and securing buy-in to this plan from CDP and its project partners;
  • Establishing good working relationships with partner organisations in Indonesia in order to deliver the above work;
  • Drafting policy briefings about commodity driven deforestation with focus on palm oil, based on analysis of corporate disclosures to CDP combined with outputs from stakeholder workshops;
  • Taking responsibility for organization of an event bringing together stakeholders of the Indonesian palm oil sector;
  • Providing advice to CDP colleagues and management about policy issues related to palm oil driven deforestation, and representing CDP externally on matters relating to palm oil deforestation.
Required skills and experience:
  • Fluency in Bahasa Indonesian and English. Other local languages are a plus.
  • Good understanding of national deforestation policy in Indonesia, and of barrier to implementation in subnational jurisdictions, and a network of contacts in this field;
  • Sound knowledge of deforestation and/or trade policy issues within South East Asia (preferably also China and Europe) and at international level (e.g. development of REDD+) and a network of policy contacts in this field;
  • Experience of engaging with policymakers
  • Experience of drafting briefings for policymakers;
  • Experience of event organization;
  • Ability to work independently, internationally and across time zones to negotiate challenges and build collaboration.
This is a full-time role based in Jakarta or Hong Kong, and offers a competitive NGO salary. This is a fixed term contract for one year with the possibility of further extension for an additional year.
