The Johns
Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (Johns Hopkins CCP), a not-for-profit
human development organization, combines the science and art of strategic
communication to help people around the world make better choice for
themselves, their families and their communities. Based in Baltimore,
MD, USA, Johns Hopkins University is one of the largest Medical and Public
Health schools in the United States. Johns Hopkins University established Johns Hopkins CCP over 25 years ago to
consolidate several health communication programs and focus attention on the
central role of communication in health behavior change. Johns Hopkins CCP
is a part of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health within the
Department of Health, Behavior and Society. The mission of Johns Hopkins CCP is to use its
core strengths —strategic behavior change, knowledge management, advocacy,
capacity building and research and evaluation— to achieve these goals.
We are currently seeking a qualified candidate for short-term Qualitative Data Analysis Consultant for Youth-ICT (home-based
with travel to Jakarta as necessary).
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of
Public Health Center for Communication Programs (CCP) manages the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation-funded “Reinvigorating Family Planning in Indonesia”
project, known as MyChoice Indonesia.
MyChoice is designed to contribute to the Government of Indonesia’s
family planning goal to increase the nation’s modern Contraceptive Prevalence
Rate (mCPR) by overcoming identified barriers and creating a consumer-driven
environment where every woman can choose and access the right method given her
life stage. MyChoice currently promotes it’s “Right Method. Right Time. My
Choice” demand generation initiative to young and newly married couples through
an integrated, multi-level campaign that includes TV spots, SKATA consumer smartphone
app, SKATA website, community mobilization activities and multiple active
social media communities.
To further support the National Family
Planning and Populaton Board (BKKBN) to expand and improve family planning in
Indonesia, MyChoice is working with an Adolescent Reproductive Health technical
working group to develop and support strategies to increase the age of marriage
and decrease the fertility rate amongst adolescents. In 2016 MyChoice conducted a qualitative
study to examine the sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents and
their parents. The study revealed that unmarried adolescents both need and want
easily accessible, reliable, stigma free sexual and reproductive health
information. In response to that need, the MyChoice project will develop sexual
and reproductive health content for youth and their parents. The content will be developed based on the
qualitative study and insights from technical working group partners and youth
themselves. The youth content will be hosted on a Hipwee-hosted microsite,
while the parent content will be hosted on the SKATA website. Hipwee will be
responsible for developing the content for youth and parents, while CCP will be
responsible for overseeing the technical quality of that content. CCP wle.cill also be responsible
for coordinating the involvement of the TWG and it parents throughout the
initiative.
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under
the MyChoice program, CCP seek to explore the reach of program into unmarried
adolescent specifically on access to information and services.
We have conducted a qualitative assessment in 2017 as a background for the
program and need further analysis in specific areas and themes which we believe
there is still some insight that needs to be explore to shape the program.
Based on this, we are looking for
an experienced qualitative researcher to conduct a qualitative analysis in the
existing data that we have in the area of adolescent sexual and reproductive
health to: 1) identify themes around ASRH that will be relevant for MyChoice program
specifically on adolescent knowledge, attitude and practice toward sexuality
and reproductive health; 2) find more insight on adolescent access to
information and health services; 3) find more insight on parents’ knowledge,
attitude and practice toward adolescent sexuality and reproductive health; and,
4) close the gap in the current analysis to
provide bigger picture that hasn’t been revealed in previous analysis
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: Master degree in relevant
discipline, preferably in public health, medical anthropology, social science,
medical education and/or other related social science field, with a minimum of
7 years relevant experience with international development programs in
analyzing large data of qualitative research in Indonesia, especially the ones
related to Adolescent Reproductive Health issues; has a good networking with
key stakeholders of ARH in Indonesia; has positive attitude toward adolescent
sexuality and non-judgmental; ability to work in a multi-cultural setting under
tight deadlines; and, have excellent communication skills, including fluency in
written and spoken in both English and Indonesia.
