Openings at The Nature Conservancy-Indonesia Program: Program Development & Learning Sr Mgr, Director of Finance & Operations

In Indonesia, TNC is affiliated with Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN), with a mission to inherit sustainable natural environment for future generations by preserving lands and water terrain in which all lives depends on, through management of protected reserved area, vital species habitat conservation and local communities empowerment.

We currently have several openings for:

  1. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & LEARNING SENIOR MANAGER

The Program Development and Learning (PDL) Senior Manager responsible for the overall management of program promoting the wise use of coastal and marine resources. The activities particularly related to responsible aquaculture, small-scale fisheries, ecotourism, and carbon finance. The PDL Senior Manager will establish productive collaboration with other stakeholders (industries, associations) in ensuring smooth project and program designs, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Program Development and Learning components of YKAN work in Indonesia in accordance with the standards set out by the organization. The PDL Senior Manager represents the Indonesia Oceans Program in internal and external meetings, as necessary. 

Duties include:
  • Develop the business plan and program strategic planning for Sustainable Practices program comprises of responsible aquaculture, community fisheries, ecotourism, and blue carbon finance program in coordination with relevant thematic managers and portfolio managers within IOP.
  • Ensure smooth implementation of Sustainable Practices, Project Development, and Learning program and projects through effective team management, collaboration with other managers and stakeholders..
  • Work together with IOP Director, the Asia Pacific, Global Team, Indonesia Corporate Engagement and Philanthropy teams in identifying and evaluating funding opportunities, drafting project proposals, donor reports, both for public and private sources
  • Assist IOP Director in undertaking management responsibilities as necessary related to Sustainable practices, project development, and Learning program, such as develop key materials for meetings and conference, put together and feed necessary information to the Program Development and Learning unit.
  • Assist the IOP Director in staff management of the Sustainable Practices, Project Development, and Learning team, including team building, assessing capacity gaps and capacity building needs, and developing strategies to address them in collaboration with HRD.
  • FY19 KPI
The Program Development and Learning Senior Manager reports to the IOP Director and is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree and 7 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong experience in coastal community livelihoods improvement activities.
  • Established networks with marine products industries and associations,
  • Familiar with global standard for sustainable practices in fisheries, aquaculture, tourism.
  • Good understanding in small-scale enterprise financing and marketing.
  • Knowledge in blue carbon or carbon financing is an asset.
  • Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation

2. DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & OPERATIONS

 
The Director of Finance & Operations helps the Indonesia program meet its strategic conservation priorities by developing, directing, and executing all strategies, plans and activities related to finance, human resources, and operations. S/he is responsible for managing complex and administrative tasks related to Finance, Human Resources, Information Systems, and Facilities Management, including analyzing and advising on all financial aspects of Indonesia and working directly with the Country Director and Board of Trustees to ensure financial security and sustainability of the program while helping program staff meet broad and ambitious conservation goals. The Director of Finance & Operations directs board engagement in the financial management and financial sustainability of the Indonesia Business Unit, including the presentation of financial information at meetings of the Board of Trustees, and Executive and Finance committees.  S/he is responsible for ensuring the operations and financial work is a collaborative and well-integrated effort across the program, and works closely with Development, Conservation Programs, Marketing & Communications, External Affairs and other cross-functional programs in preparing budgets and other financial information for funding proposals, regular financial reports and related guidance materials.

The Director of Finance & Operations works independently and with teams to establish and track measures, and indicators of operational and financial progress and success, and reinforces compliance and consistency with related organizational policies and procedures.  S/he will lead diverse activities, develop complex processes, project outcomes, and initiate solutions in order to improve effectiveness. S/he will serve as team leader for the enhancement of finance, human resources, and operations systems and tools used by the program. The Director of Finance & Operations leverages constructive and effective relationships with a wide range of people, including senior management within and outside the Indonesia program, public and private sector colleagues, partners, vendors, and financial/legal advisors.  The Director of Finance & Operations reports directly to the Country Director, and manages a multidisciplinary team comprised of finance, human resources, grants, technology and information systems, and operations staff.

Specifically, the Director of Finance & Operations and his/her team will:

Duties include:

Strategy Formulation and Implementation
  • Participates with the Indonesia Leadership Team (ILT) in the development/formulation, review and implementation of strategies and annual plans.
Financial Management and Oversight
  • Provides financial oversight and fiscal management including budgeting, strategic financial planning, long-term financial & program sustainability, projections, preparation of periodic and ad hoc reports for the Board, Country Director, and program directors, and works closely with regional/divisional finance staff. Discipline execution of annual budget and 5-year financial plan.
  • Leads all financial report analysis; lead development of annual budgets; coordinate annual plans and budgets for all programs; develop timelines for budget submission; prepare summary documentation; secure regional approval of annual budgets/plans; and monitor department programs for budget adherence.
  • Ensures that financial systems are robust, compliant, and support current activities and future growth.
Revenues Management
  • Supports Country Director in creating a system to effectively monitory revenue.
  • Support Country Director in following up revenue and fundraising target with the appropriate fundraising lead (Membership, Development/Philanthropy, Marketing Communications, External Affairs) on monthly basis ensuring revenue is on track.
  • Supports Country Director in ensuring revenues are planned appropriately, pursue revenue consistently and persistently in domestic, region and international sources.
  • Supports and work closely with the Country Director in developing partnership for the development of financial instruments (such as mutual funds for conservations) and tapping into capital market.
Human Resources, Operations and Administration, Workplace Culture
  • Ensures strong Human Resources support for the Indonesia Business Unit including workforce planning, recruiting, on-boarding, retention, professional development, performance management, compensation and off-boarding.
  • Oversees development of programs to promote workplace satisfaction and strong workplace morale; monitor culture and develop programs to measure, maintain and improve as necessary.
  • Oversees and work in collaboration with other Business Unit and operations staff on human resources-related issues and provide guidance to others in satisfying administrative requirements, including working closely with regional/divisional human resources managers.
  • Oversees general operations and administrative support functions including technology and information systems coordination; expense and time reports; and office, inventory, facilities, and fleet management. Develops metrics and feedbacks, and auditing effectiveness in operations.
  • Leads the safety team to develop, manage and communicate Emergency Preparedness plans.
Compliance
  • Develops guidelines and processes to ensure efficient and accurate fiscal and operational management of the program.
  • Ensures compliance with TNC and Yayasan administrative policies and procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Indonesia Accounting Finance Standard Principles, financial regulation of TNC Worldwide office, Financial Accounting Standards Board requirements and serve as principal liaison with the national and regional offices in these matters.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of, sensitivity to, and compliance with laws, policies and procedures in handling confidential information.
  • Provides oversight of privately funded awards.
Relationship
  • Serve as principal contact for Trustee financial and operations committees and information needs.
  • Interact with internal and external auditors and provide the requisite information.
  • Work and communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including employees, the public, vendors, and people with different personal and professional backgrounds in order to develop, negotiate, and or implement programs and projects.
  • Demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and discretion. 
Reporting

Provides timely financial reports to relevant internal and external stakeholders, such as:
  • Monthly reporting (P&L) for each division.
  • Financial report for donors.
  • Quarterly financial update for internal and external.
  • Oversees all audits and ensure financial audits are clean.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 7 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with computer and information management systems, Excel spreadsheets and databases for financial analysis, fiscal management, and/or financial reports.
  • Experience recruiting, supervising and developing staff.
  • Experience in developing, directing and implementing multiple projects.
  • Experience developing budgets, performing high level financial analysis and recommending corrective action as appropriate.
  • Experience acting as a consultant/advisor to senior executives.
  • Experience developing complex financial model & business plan and developing conceptualize sustainable financing model.
  • Experience with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting principles, practices and regulations, including government grants accounting and reporting.
  • MBA, CPA or CIA.
