Nutrition International/NI is implementing MITRA Youth, a
project supporting Weekly Iron Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFAS) for
prevention and reduction of Iron Deficiency Anaemia (IDA) among school-going
adolescent girls, in selected districts in two provinces of Indonesia: East
Java and East Nusa Tenggara. MITRA Youth is funded by Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia.
To support program delivery, NI has supported capacity building
activities i.e. Training for Trainers (ToT) for provincial stakeholders,
training sessions for district stakeholders in 20 districts, and two days
training for selected health workers from puskesmas and teachers from senior
high schools in 20 districts. As follow up, NI is planning to support on On-the-Job
Training (OJT), to ensure front-line personnel, namely the UKS teachers, are
able to forecast, record and report, and conduct effective counseling for
adolescent girls for the WIFAS program.
During the OJT, facilitators from district and puskesmas level
will conduct interviews and group discussions with UKS teachers on the WIFAS
program implementation at schools including the challenges.. The findings from
OJT will be used for strengthening the service delivery of the WIFA program
both at district as well as puskesmas level. The OJT will use the instruments
that have been reviewed by consultant during the training module modification
based on OJT implementation of WIFA demo in Cimahi and Purwakarta District.
In order to conduct the OJT at selected schools in the twenty
districts, NI seeks support of a local agency to facilitate the implementation
of this project component.
