UN Women
Background:
UN Women, grounded
in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations,
works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the
empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men
as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian
action and peace and security.
Unit/
Project Background:
The international community has recognised that women’s participation is
vital to achieving and sustaining peace. In 2000, the UN Security Council
passed the historic resolution
1325 on women, peace and security. It calls for women to
participate in peacebuilding, be better protected from human rights
violations, and have access to justice and services to eliminate
discrimination.
UN Women’s programmes on women, peace and
security are guided by a series of
commitments to women’s rights. These include resolution 1325, and seven
supporting UN Security Council resolutions—1820, 1888, 1889,
The UN Women
country office in Indonesia utilizes a
comprehensive approach linking efforts to sustain peace and to create
peaceful communities to a larger Gender Justice concept which is based on women’s empowerment, protection
and participation in the justice and security sectors.
Under the overall responsibility of UN Women’s WPS Programme Specialist, the intern will be expected to provide support to the programme support
functions of UN Women. We are
seeking a dynamic and proactive team player, with a strong interest in the Rule of Law and Gender Justice issues.
