BACKGROUND & SCOPE

ICCO Cooperation is an international organization, whose mission is to end poverty and injustice in the global south, in partnership with enterprising people. Our vision is a world without poverty, exclusion and injustice. To achieve this goal, our programs connect and strengthen the interface between our two core principles: Securing Sustainable Livelihoods and Justice & Dignity for All. Our head office is based in the Netherlands, with five regional and multiple country offices in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the USA.

The regional office in South East Asia is based in Bali, Indonesia with a presence in Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Vietnam. We focus on 4 programmatic areas: economic empowerment, food security and sustainable consumption, responsible business and emergency aid. We believe that long-term success can be achieved through programs and investments carried out by enterprising people and organizations. As such we work closely with a broad range of value chain actors including CSOs, producer organisations, local small and medium enterprises, international companies and financial institutions.

ICCO Cooperation in Indonesia is seeking the services of a professional photographer with experience in taking development work photographs. The photographer will assist the organisation to document its various project activities and success stories through photography. These photographs will contribute to ICCO Southeast Asia’s project photo portfolio

With guidance from the Communication Officer, the photographer will be required to:

·         Capture high resolution images of ICCO’s various programme/project activities (for projects such as, but not limited to, SMARTseeds, SpiceUp, CEA and FDOV) in various parts of the country.

·         Caption each photograph with specific details (i.e. location, name of person (portraits), activity and other relevant information.

·         Provide ICCO with at least 100 high quality photographs (via online transfer or USB transfer) per assignment. The copy right for these photographs remains with ICCO Cooperation.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

·         Proven experience in providing high-quality photographs and editing services;

·         Experience taking photographs for development programs/projects or agencies is highly desirable;

·         A diploma, training or experience in photojournalism is highly desirable.

·         Availability and willingness to travel to remote locations;

·         MUST be in possession of state-of-the art digital camera/equipment;

·         Ability to work in close coordination with others;

·         Excellent organisational and planning capacity to deliver work in a timely fashion.

OBJECTIVE & EXPECTED OUTPUTS

The photographer is required to produce photographs to illustrate the various interventions, activities and beneficiaries of projects, which may vary based on assignment. Wherever possible, the photographs should highlight the changes and impact of the project in the location(s), particularly focusing on capturing the impact on beneficiaries. For assignments focusing on beneficiaries, photographs should tell a story of how ICCO’s contribution impacted the person, community and the surroundings. For these assignments, it is important to document how individual lives are affected by the project by gathering photos and stories behind the photos.

The photo types required are various and can include, but are not limited to:

·         Extreme close-ups

·         Close-ups

·         Mid-shot

·         Long-shot

·         Staged shots

·         Action shots

ICCO prefers photographs that showcase people (whether in action or staged). This is especially important if they have shared their story or a quote. Action photos capturing processes, technological innovation, and the wider community/stakeholder shots are also highly desirable. The expected outputs are:

·         A collection of high-quality photographs depicting various areas of ICCO’s work in Indonesia

·         A collection of high-quality photo essays of project beneficiaries from a sample of ICCO’s projects in Indonesia

·         Edited and captioned pictures

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The photographer will be hired under a one-year contract on an assignment basis for an expected total duration of 50 days (maximum). Assignments are expected to cover anywhere from 3 working days up until 10 working days. Payments will be made per assignment, in three installments:

·         20% upon starting the assignment;

·         30% upon submitting initial photos for selection;

·         50% final payment upon submission of final photos (including all original files) including the comments and feedback from the team.

The photographer will receive adequate support from the Communication officer and other members of the team, including guidance on what to capture and background information on projects and activities.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS / COPYRIGHT INFORMATION

• All photographs captured by the photographer during the assignments will be the property of ICCO Cooperation. Therefore, ICCO reserves the right over the use of these images in perpetuity.
• All information pertaining to the projects (documentary, digital, cyber, project documents, etc) belonging to ICCO, which the photographer may come into contact with in the performance of his/her, duties under the assignments shall remain the property of ICCO who shall have exclusive rights over their use. Except for purposes of the assignments, the project information shall not be disclosed to the public or used without written permission from ICCO in line with the national and International Copyright Laws applicable.
