WRI Indonesia is looking for Conflct Transformation Riau

One of the key modalities in One Map Initiative is Conflict Transformation framework, which aims to create evidence-based policies and processes in addressing and prevent overlapping claims over land on the ground that results to conflicts. The work includes developing methodology, research, capacity building process, multi-stakeholder forum, coalition network, policy recommendations, and potential solutions for resolution process over land and natural resources conflict with government agencies, private sector, civil society organizations, and local communities. The work will span until 2021, focusing on Riau, South Sumatra, Papua and West Papua provinces. 
The Conflict Transformation Consultant will be based in Pekanbaru-Riau, and will support WRI Indonesia-Regional Team, WRI Indonesia’s One Map Initiative, particularly in Conflict Transformation portfolio in the areas of work of WRI Indonesia.
 
Overview 
The overall objective of the One Map Initiative is to transform land use decision-making processes to be open, accountable, and participatory. WRI Indonesia will achieve this through catalyzing a unified and transparent land use planning and monitoring system that is accessible to all land use stakeholders. Through partnership with local governments, civil societies and the private sectors, WRI Indonesia will develop a model of engagement that can be used to scale this approach into a National One Map Initiative. The work will span five years, focusing on Riau, South Sumatra, and Papua provinces.

The work includes developing methodology, research, capacity building process, multi-stakeholder forum, coalition network, policy recommendations, and potential solutions for resolution process over land and natural resources conflict with government agencies, private sector, civil society organizations, and local communities
The Conflict Transformation Consultant will assist the overall Conflict Transformation’s work, such as (i) assisting in the program implementation of Conflict Transformation outputs and linking it back to other related national policy such as Social Forestry and Agrarian Reform, (ii) assisting in research development and implementation, particularly for Conflict Transformation outputs under WRI Indonesia’s One Map Initiative in Riau Province, and its priority Districts, and (iii) assisting in stakeholder engagement with key local stakeholders in conflict transformation/resolution network. Under the guidance of Conflict Transformation Specialist and through the assistant of the regional manager, he/she will also need to work closely with WRI Indonesia-Regional team, WRI Indonesia’s S&R Coordinator, One Map program team, and key government and non-government stakeholders to strategically grow WRI Indonesia’s portfolio and achieving its objectives. 
 
Responsibilities
The position will be reporting to the Conflict Transformation Specialist of WRI Indonesia. He/she will liaise closely with WRI Program Manager, S&R Coordinator, Research Assistant, and relevant agencies of the local Government.
Research (20%)
-       Conduct Rapid assessment activities for seeking the roles of women participation on sustainable forest land use in Riau Province, and its priority districts.
 
Program Implementation (50%)
-        Assist in land use governance activities for the implementation and development of Conflict Transformation framework in Riau Province, and its priority districts.
-        Help facilitate learning processes and capacity building activities related to the implementation of conflict transformation framework in Riau Province, and its priority districts.
-         Involved in data collection, analysis (quantitative and qualitative), mapping, reporting and presentation.
-        Help facilitate the roles of women participation on   sustainable forest land used in Riau Province, and its priority districts.
-        Assist and facilitate the empowerment of women to improve their sustainable livelihood in managing sustainable forest land used in Riau Province, and its priority districts.
-        Assist in administration processes and activities in field or daily activities related to conflict transformation project, including appropriate documentation and reporting of the activities.
 
Stakeholder Engagement (30%)
-        Help to contact and organize meetings with stakeholders in learning processes and capacity building activities for implementation and development of the Conflict Transformation framework in Riau Province, and its priority districts.
-        Help liaise outreach and cultivates relationships with potential partners, and stakeholder for forest and land use work in Riau Province, and its priority districts (including governments, private sectors, CSOs, foundations, and individual public figures);
 
 
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
-        Legally able to work in Indonesia.
-        Have degree in a related field (master’s degree is preferred), preferably with coursework in conflict resolutions, environmental policy, social studies, forestry, and other relevant subjects.
-        Minimum three years of professional working experience in conflict resolution, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, community facilitation, government, and Civil Society Organization (CSO), and familiarity on One Map Initiative.
-        Experience managing project in non-profit, government or private sector settings.
-        Experience in conflict mediation is a plus.
-        Based in Pekanbaru-Riau.
-        Demonstrate skills and knowledge to perform the assignment professionally.
-        Experience working with stakeholder engagement or related position.
-        Ability to work well in group/team as well as working individually.
-        Willingness and ability to travel to remote areas.
-        Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
-        Understanding of gender, land use, environmental issue, conflict resolution, and land governance issues in Riau Province and its priority districts.
-        Experienced in forum/working groups facilitation for stakeholders in province and district levels..
-        Excellent in communication process to various stakeholders.
 
Final candidates will be required to take a writing test. Also required to produce two writing samples
