GIZ Indonesia for the RE Capacity Building in Indonesia Project: Junior Advisor

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German implementing organization which provides services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.


The G20 countries established a “G20 Resource Efficiency Dialogue” in 2017. In support of this international process, the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) commissioned GIZ to implement a global project “Initiative Resource Efficiency and Climate Action”. This initiative aims to strengthen capacities of key actors from public and private sector in emerging economies to develop and push forward measures and integrated strategies for increasing resource efficiency and improving climate action.

To support this project, GIZ is currently recruiting one (1) Indonesian candidate for the following position:

Junior Advisor

A.    Responsibilities
·         provide support for trainings on resource efficiency
·         provide support for activities on resource efficiency for climate mitigation along the value chain of selected industries
·         ensuring knowledge management and result based monitoring on resource efficiency and climate action project activities in Indonesia

B.    Tasks  
  1. Coordination and monitoring
  • provide overview on activities related with resource efficiency and presents this regularly at team meetings
  • supports monitoring in the project and updates information on projects progress, documents and reports regularly on the status of results
  • assists with recording and documenting the results of activities within her responsibilities
  • assists with planning, coordinating and documenting meetings, workshops, seminars and other project activities
  • assists international and national short-term experts assigned to projects related with implementation of activities

  1. Research and Knowledge Management
  • prepares and carries out qualitative research projects related with resource efficiency for climate mitigation along the value chain of selected industries
  • assists in drawing up reports and translations related with activities within her responsibilities
  • elaborates concepts and products like handbooks, guidelines, etc
  • assists in communicating, updating and collecting information on issues related with resource efficiency
  • organises and updates the documentation from the project
  • assists in ensuring and deepen continuous communication and exchange between the team, its public partners and representatives from the Indonesian industry sectors

  1. Support for administrative matters
  • Coordinates the organization and preparation of workshops, conferences, trainings, seminars, minute-taking and translation tasks

  1. General obligations
  • is familiar with GIZ planning, implementation and reporting procedures and their changes
  • is familiar with other projects and GIZ-assisted measures, concepts and status of implementation and knows the corresponding experts and staff
  • represents the interest of the GIZ-assisted measure and always acts on its behalf
  • carries out important tasks for the project, even if these are not explicitly cited in the job description

  1. Other duties/additional tasks
·      Special tasks, which are relevant to the project, have to be undertaken on request of the Principal Advisor or Senior Advisor

C.    Required qualifications, competences and experience
Formal Education
·         University degree in chemical engineering or environmental engineering

Professional experience Professional experience
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience, including project management
  • Background in environmental management systems, energy efficiency, eco-efficiency, environmental technology
  • Experience in developing and facilitating capacity development programs, tools and training modules, ideally linked to the climate change topic (mitigation)
  • Good knowledge of the working modes of the Indonesian public and private sectors
  • Networks into both public and private sectors in Indonesia regarding environment and climate change issues

Other knowledge, additional competences
  • Language skills: excellent spoken and written English and Indonesian
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills and ability to utilize appropriate language/argumentation for different types of stakeholders, i.e.. public partners, private sector partners, NGOs, donors, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently while also having the skills and interests to work effectively within teams and networks
  • Demonstrated ability to do conceptual work, critical thinking, successfully implement concepts, and be able to monitor, adjust, and report on results achieved
  • Have a personal preference and orientation towards implementation
