Program Overview
WRI Indonesia
participates in an independent monitoring initiative, Pantau Gambut, an online
platform that provides knowledge and learning about peatland to enable a
meaningful public participation in peatland restoration. The objective of the
platform is to monitor the restoration commitments from both public and private
sector in achieving the restoration targets. This platform provides the factual
portray of the progress of peatland restoration and protection programs in
Indonesia which visualize several key themes such as: forest fire on peat,
restoration infrastructures and the implementation of moratorium on peatland
opening. In order to achieve better understanding, communication plays critical
role in translating field findings in a format that is understood by laymen.
Therefore, WRI Indonesia aims to enhance web-based contents by hiring content
editor to support WRI Indonesia in translating, editing and other activities to
produce digestible content. Working with PG’s team, contractor will distill
PG’s research and ideas for non-specialist adjusting PG’s tone of campaign. Results from contracted individuals must be
approved by the Communications and Peatland restoration team at WRI
Indonesia.

Job Responsibilities
Provide information, reports, and articles from
field that should be in line with WRI Indonesia’s focus and interest in
peatland restoration and protection monitoring initiatives.

4 in-depth articles: investigation, op-ed and
feature stories during the contract period with detail as follow:

Job
Qualifications
·
Local
journalist with wide journalism network based in West Kalimantan, Papua, and
West Papua (WRI Indonesia will select one individual in each of the provinces).
·
Bachelor
degree of Journalism, communications, broadcasting or others relevant studies.
·
Minimum
of 3-5 years of experience and/or have passion in Indonesia’s environmental
issues particularly peatland management.
·
Experience
in writing investigation report is a plus.
·
Familiarity
with digital journalism and web-based content which provide expository writing
to layman who have no prior knowledge with the subject.
·
Familiarity
with local CSO activities in peatland related issues include investigation and
ground checking.
·
Strong
writing, communication skill and ability to dig into complex and important
issues (demonstrated with a portfolio with examples of investigative and
breaking news reporting)
·
Knowledge
of digital camera, video, GPS and others field equipment
·
Ability
to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines as well as ability to work both
independently and collaboratively
Period
of Work
The duration of the service is 3 months from 1
March 2020 to 31 May 2020 with possibility of extension according to
performance evaluation. A detailed work plan will be discussed with WRI
Indonesia’s peatland restoration team following signing of the engagement
contract.

be eligible for this position
Final candidates might
be required to take a writing test and to produce two writing samples when
needed.
Consultant rate: Consultant rate
is commensurate with experience and skills.
