BACKGROUND
The AHA Centre – ASEAN
Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management – is an
inter-governmental organisation established by 10 ASEAN Member States – Brunei
Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines,
Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam - to facilitate the cooperation and
coordination among ASEAN Member States and with the United Nations and
international organisations for disaster management and emergency response in
the region.
After the successful
launch of the first edition of the ASEAN Risk Monitor and Disaster Management
Review (ARMOR) in 2019, the AHA Centre plans to publish another edition this
year. The second edition will feature ten (10) articles that will focus on the theme
of climate emergencies, and is planned to be launched in August. Through the
publication of ARMOR, the AHA Centre is looking forward to make meaningful
contribution to the disaster management sector in the region by bridging
science and practice.
For this purpose, the
AHA Centre is seeking to obtain a service provider to perform language review
of the draft articles submitted to the ARMOR’s Board of Editors to ensure the
quality of the submitted articles.
OBJECTIVES
The AHA Centre wishes to
engage a professional editor to review and refine ARMOR in accordance to the
writing guidelines provided by the AHA Centre. Furthermore, the editor is
required to standardise the common terminologies and language style contributed
by various authors in different chapters of the publication.
Working closely with the Assistant Director for Disaster Monitoring & Analysis, Resource Mobilisation Manager, and the Communications Officer of the
AHA Centre, the appointed Consultant will be required to do the following:
·
Editorial services that include reviewing,
proofreading and editing articles for each chapter in ARMOR. The editing must
be done in a manner that does not compromise the content; and
·
Highlight the relevance and importance of
disaster preparedness efforts, coordination, and management in Southeast Asia
through well-edited, concise, and informative articles in ARMOR.
EXPECTED OUTPUTS/DELIVERABLES
More specifically, the Editor is expected to accomplish the following
outputs:
1.
Create a work plan;
2.
Edit ten (10) Chapters of
ARMOR, approximately 4,000 to 8,000 words each, within the agreed timeline;
3.
Participate in the weekly
virtual meetings and actively contribute to the refinement of ARMOR, based on
the guidance of the Board of Editors; and
4.
Assist in reviewing the
final draft of the publication, prior to the printing process.
