Program Overview
Through its
Forests and Landscapes Restoration as well as Peatland Restoration projects,
WRI Indonesia aims to increase food security, improve livelihoods and human
well-being, enhance biodiversity conservation and ecosystem productivity, and
strengthen climate change mitigation and adaptation through the restoration of
degraded and deforested landscapes, including the introduction of trees into
agricultural landscapes. Key objectives include

Increased
political inspiration, support and ambitious commitments to forest landscape
restoration, including peatland restoration
·
Obstacles to
restoration identified and in the process of being addressed through national
and sub-national plans, policies and/or institutional frameworks
·
Strong
capacity, financial support, and credible measurement and monitoring of
restoration activities provided
WRI Indonesia
supports the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) and the Peat
Restoration Agency (BRG) to achieve its restoration targets, which are aligned
with the aim to significantly reduce carbon emissions in Indonesia
The Peatland
Restoration Research Consultant will report directly to Senior Manager for
Energy and Climate while while coordinating closely with Peatland Restoration
Technical Expert work and other project managers/leads of several restoration
projects at WRI Indonesia. It is expected that the Peatland Restoration
Research Consultant will use their scientific expertise to support the Peatland
Restoration Technical Expert in enhancing WRI Indonesia’s restoration-related
projects and develop WRI Indonesia’s reputation as a go-to environmental think
tank for forests and landscape restoration, especially peatland restoration, in
the nation and in the region. The research outcomes are intended to promote
innovative solutions and data-driven analyses that accelerate restoration
at-scale and transform business-as-usual into best practices. In order to
achieve such objectives, the Peatland Restoration Research Consultant is also
expected to engage with stakeholders, perform some managerial tasks, and get
involved in fundraising.
Job Responsibilities
The Peatland Restoration Research Consultant
will assist the Peatland Restoration Technical Expert in conducting several
peatland-related research projects and facilitating the analysis and
development of the knowledge products.
Below is the breakdown of the deliverables of
the Peatland Restoration Research Consultant:
Research and
Knowledge Product Development (100%):

Assist in investigating peatland
restoration-related issues;
·
Assist in conducting research on peatland
restoration-related issues;
·
Assist in analyzing data and information to
develop knowledge products;
·
Assist in writing knowledge products (WRI
Knowledge Products/Scientific Journal Publication).
Deliverables
1. Assisting research and development
of the peatland restoration-related issue;
2. Authoring or co-authoring at least
three WRI Knowledge Products/journal articles on peatland restoration-related
topics;
3. Authoring or co-authoring at least
four blog posts/op-ed on peatland restoration-related topics;
4. Presenting research and concepts
in national/international conferences (at least 1 event);
5. Assisting in fundraising for
peatland issue-related programs.
Job
Qualifications
·
Master
degree in forestry, agriculture, hydrology, environmental science, or other
relevant fields;
·
University-based
and/or professional research experience of minimum 2 years in natural
resources-related fields;
·
Proficiency
in using Microsoft product(s): word, excel, power point, notes and similar app
of other products and/or brands;
·
Very
strong writing and research skills, excellent academic performance, as well as
high level of organization and attention to detail;
·
Familiarity
with or interest in Indonesian natural resources issues;
·
High
integrity, passion for sustainable development, and good sense of humor
preferred;
·
Able
to travel to remote areas to do field investigation and stakeholders
coordination;
·
Demonstrated
proficiency and fluency in oral and written English and Bahasa Indonesia;
·
Must
be self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized thinker with an ability to
juggle multiple priorities, handle assignments independently, and work under
tight deadlines.
Period
of Work
This
position is expected to start on 1 August 2020 until 30 April 2021.
Terms
of Payment
Daily-rate consultant with maximum 18
(eighteen) working days per month
Must have authorization to work in Indonesia to
be eligible for this position.
Final candidates might
be required to take a writing test and to produce two writing samples when
needed.
Consultant rate: Consultant rate
is commensurate with experience and skills.
