PROJECT DIRECTOR

Location: Jakarta, Indonesia
Effective
with the release of this position announcement, ChildFund is recruiting
applicants for the Project Director's position for an anticipated
Countering Religious Intolerance in Indonesia project. The anticipated
24 to 48 months project will be implemented in Java. It will increase
awareness of shared challenges and build capacity to coordinate efforts
to mitigate intolerance and human rights abuse against minority
religious communities and, engage supportive religious leaders in
interfaith and intrafaith actions and government officials to reduce
intolerance and human rights abuse against minority religious
communities and other minority groups.
The
responsibilities, duties, and qualifications are described in the
attached position description. The position is contingent upon approval
of the grant application/donor funding.
Summary
The
Project Director is expected to have strong background and experience
in managing projects related to countering religious intolerance in
Indonesia. S/he will be responsible for managing a diverse project team,
ensuring that administrative and financial procedures comply with donor
requirements and project deliverables are achieved based on established
program criteria and standards. S/he will coordinate and maintain
working relationships with project stakeholders which includes key
government agencies, subgrantees and/or subcontractors, short-term
technical support providers, and local training/academic institutions.
S/he will lead collaborative initiatives to ensure all approaches are
sustainable and evidence based. Essential responsibilities include:
Duties/Responsibilities
• Remain
alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant
knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong
safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and
procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child
Safeguarding Policy.
• Oversee the day-to-day project implementation and ensure achievement of targets as outlined in the project work plan.
• Facilitate and nurture relations and collaboratively work with the Indonesian Government to advocate project objectives.
• Lead
timely and high-quality implementation of project activities including
managing project budget to assure timely spending and ensuring that
monitoring and evaluation are at the required quality standards.
• Ensure
timely submission of periodic reportorial requirements to donors and
support field staff to produce well-written, accurate and timely reports
on the project status.
• Document
best project practices to promote organizational learning; collaborate
with the program team for experience sharing opportunities.
• Build
relations, maintain constant communication, and provide technical
oversight and guidance to the subcontracts/subawards, project staff and
partners to ensure that project activity are implemented as planned.
• Represent
the project to external stakeholders, including the donor, local and
national government entities, media, NGOs, and the local business
community.
• Lead and supervise project team, builds team coherence and establishes clear roles and responsibilities among team members.
• In
coordination with ChildFund’s communication unit and other relevant
counterpart communications department, strengthens the communication of
the project in order to communicate results, deepen stakeholder
knowledge and buy-in to the project, and to facilitate resource
mobilization for the project.
The key
duties/responsibilities have an impact on the smooth implementation of
the Countering Religious Intolerance in Indonesia project through
effective and efficient project management and proper coordination with
all related stakeholders.
Qualification/Experience
• Master
or Bachelor Degree in Conflict and Peace Studies, Development Studies,
International Relations, Public Administration, Law, Human Rights or
equivalent in relevant fields of Social Science.
• 5+
years of experience in peace building or similar development
cooperation programs, preferably on countering religious intolerance.
• Knowledge
of conflict prevention/ peace building programmes and experience in
implementing de-radicalization/ countering violent extremism projects
and programmes highly desirable.
Strong knowledge and experience in project management are essential and ability to write high-quality reports.
• Must have a track-record in financial management, budget design, and budget management experience.
High-level
interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, including the ability to build
collaborative relationships internally and externally with sensitivity
to cultural, ethnic, social, and political issues.
• Above-average
knowledge and skills on project-based accounting, negotiation,
analytical, facilitation, organizational and time management skills, and
the supportive attitude towards strengthening local organizations and
building local capacities for self-management.
• Familiar with USDRL donor requirements is a plus
• Assertive, detail-oriented, technology savvy, has financial and operational management skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia required and English is an absolute necessity.
