Nutrition International “NI” (formerly known as
the Micronutrient Initiative) is an Ottawa-based, international not-for-profit
organization dedicated to ensuring that the world's most vulnerable people,
especially women and children in developing countries get the vitamins and
minerals they need to survive and thrive. Working with impacted families,
communities and nations, we are improving lives of close to 500 million people
in more than 70 countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America. NI is supported
by the Global Affairs Canada (GAC), Government of Canada and other generous
donors.
NI is currently implementing various
micronutrient programs across 5 (five) provinces in Indonesia i.e. Banten, West
Java, Central Java, East Java and East Nusa Tenggara. The vitamin A
supplementation program has been implemented in 3 provinces (Banten, West Java,
and West Nusa Tenggara Province), as well as implementing the Iron and Folic
Acid supplementation program for pregnant women. Another project is MITRA
(Micronutrient Supplementation for Reducing Mortality and Morbidity in
Indonesia) and MITRA-Youth in selected 20 districts in two provinces (East Java
and East Nusa Tenggara) funded by DFAT Australia for IFA Supplementation
program among school-going adolescent girls. Following the pilot implementation
of the Zinc and ORS for childhood diarrhea program in selected districts in
West Nusa Tenggara, the program has been started the scaling up to West Java
and Banten province. In addition, Universal Salt Iodization program, has
been implemented in Central Java and East Java while Wheat flour fortification
implemented in Banten, West Java, Central Java and East Java. The Right Start
program would have been implemented for the Wheat-Flour Fortification program
since the end of last fiscal year. In 2018, the Right Start program is started
to be implemented for the scale up of WIFA for school adolescent girls in all
districts in 2 provinces (West Java and Banten). The Better Investment for
Stunting Alleviation (BISA) project is an integrated nutrition-specific and
nutrition-sensitive project designed jointly by Save the Children and NI (BISA
team) to assist the Government of Indonesia (GoI) to realize the goal of the
National Strategy to Accelerate Stunting Prevention (2018-2024). BISA targets
two Provinces – West Java and East Nusa Tenggara.
