System Administrator

We’re looking for a System Administrator Consultant for Asia Justice and Rights or AJAR (working remotely)

About the Role

AJAR is a regional human rights organization working to increase the capacity of local and national organizations to effectively fight impunity.  We contribute to building cultures based on accountability, justice, and a willingness to learn from the root causes of mass human rights violations in Asia and the Pacific region.

We rely heavily on IT systems to support our work with partners and survivors.  We are seeking an experienced system administrator, eager to help with the maintenance, configuration, and operation of computer systems and servers.  The successful candidate will help protect our information, systems and assets, provide training to our staff, and proactively resolve problems with computer and server systems, limiting disruptions to work.

The system administrator will report to the Communications’ Coordinator, and work in close collaboration with the Communications Team to assist with daily project management, infrastructure maintenance, digital security, and website upgrades.

Objectives of the Role

  • Maintain and ensure the smooth running of essential IT infrastructure and networks, including data center and servers, operating systems, security tools, applications, and email systems.
  • Communicate with staff and other parties to update them on the status of platforms and tools, activities, and achievements.
  • Ensure digital safety and security practices adhere to AJAR’s internal security policy.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Perform server administration tasks, including assisting server migration, user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system components work together seamlessly.
  • Provide around the clock automated monitoring and emergency uptime support of servers, and major user-facing web services, as well as data center health using pre-existing (and requested) management tools, and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain server (and possible migration) as needed.
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of AJAR internal infrastructure requirements including the configuration of application software (Office 365, Google Suite and Cloud Platform), computer hardware, and network file systems needed in AJAR’s project management framework (OpenProject)
  • Lead IT support efforts remotely, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.
  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
  • Provide advice to the Communications team in producing digital products and assist the backend maintenance of AJAR’s communication channels (with priorities on AJAR’s main website).

Selection Criteria

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Proven skills and experience in handling information technology systems and networks
  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure management, especially in maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems and storage, network servers, and establishing a data center that hosts sensitive information.
  • Experience with or knowledge of relevant programming languages and operating systems, current equipment and technologies used by the organization, especially in terms of project management and cloud computing application.
  • Willingness to learn the inner workings of new platforms and applications that are required to support AJAR’s programs, especially in the environment of open-source technology.

Desirable abilities:

  • Written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of project management
  • Adequate knowledge of digital safety and security protocol

Remuneration:

  • The position starts as soon as possible.
  • Compensation will be commensurate with Indonesian rates.
